Of course, this is theory only. But how would it affect your business model if ALL the pirates you compete with, deleted all their tracks from Sound Choice and Chartbuster from their hard drives?

1) Will you take over the market and have rigs in multiple venues because only YOU have the best karaoke tracks?

2) How will you compete with vendors who still may have triple the number of tracks you have?

3) With the threat of litigation gone, will more pirates enter the industry?

4) Safe Harbor agreement would cease to exist, what's your pitch to venues at that point?

5) Assuming this would create a flood of new pirates in your market, what legal steps will you take to remain in business?

Wouldn't make a bit of difference. They still would have 50K of other manus pirated.

If that happened I just may get back into the mobile side of things. Otherwise i'll just remain where i'm at for the time, if the kj's started deleting CB as well as SC, i'd have an edge - as i'm already seeing an increase of new singers at our show with those few kj's around here just deleting SC tracks. Doesn't really matter to me WHY they are leaving anothers show - beit because they cannot keep a crowd otherwise or whatever, if they want a specific brand, i'll be happy to offer it up to them.

1) If I were ever to "take over a market" it would be because I would be the better host, not because of having my show "owned" by any brand of disc.

2) See above. Been competing with larger libraries since the MP3/piracy boom. So far, so good.

3) More pirates than what? In this P-poor economy, anyone with a PC and a powered speaker is giving the KJ/DJ market a try. The litigation process so heavily discussed here and on other forums isn't exactly knockin' 'em dead in the real world.

4) Again, see number one. My style of show, my people skills, my ability to make a good time happen anywhere - for singers and non-singers alike- my ability as an ex venue owner to see both sides of the coin ( and how to make it), my resume containing a long history of successful multi-year shows in diverse venues, skills at mixing sound on the fly, never missing a show (I've done 'em in blackouts, blizzards, with oxygen tanks hidden under the table while enduring a lung problem {healed in a week}, ...) etc. etc. etc.... THIS is my "pitch".

I might mention that I carry thousands of songs, but in the decades that I've been doing this, no owner has EVER asked me how many thousands, or what brands they are.

5) See #3, then all other answers. Until, some government authorized agency takes an interest, there's simply no place to go that would make a difference.

You can definitely run a show without those brands. There's is quite a few alternatives out there to run a show.

But I have to be honest... there is quite a few people out there too, who request SC because they like it and did leave other shows because they stopped playing it. From my experience...

SC and CB are not that much better than the other songs that are out there, (even though I own a lot of SC tracks). Often they are not even the best version of a song.

Other things like personality of the KJ, Location, Sound system, ability of the KJ, etc. add up to be far more important than SC or no SC. All things being equal SC/CB tracks might help many shows but all things are not equal.

On that I have to strongly disagree. SC & CB are the cream of the crop. The vast majority are that much better.

A show is the sum of it's parts, yes. I prefer ALL the parts to be top notch, hence my choice of music manus.

don't forget to pull pop hits monthly (stellar) . It looks like they will get in on it shortly.

We had a pirate show next to us that got fired after they cut down their song book. They no longer had the songs people wanted to sing and no one went in anymore. So it CAN make a difference if that is all they had to offer. It didn't mean a big increase to us as we already had seperate type crowds but some of ours who went back and forth because they were friends with both bar's staff or who wanted to sing more, etc. quit going.

What I see happening is when the new delivery systems expand beyond Chartbuster then we still would have alot of "budget" KJs entering the market as they could start with minimal library investment and still have whatever anyone wanted to sing. And they would be legal so that argument would go out the window. I think things will remain tough, no matter what.

Please clarify: What you are saying is that even though pirates might be eliminated locally, you don't see your income as being able to go up for any foreseeable future because of the new delivery system right?

That is what I am wondering about--can't really predict the future but it seems like something to think about. However I still would like to see the pirates hassled as they are unethical in ways other than just stealing and they can be a nuisance plus deter people from wanting karaoke again--at least where we are. They have brought alot of hassles down upon us.

I have the attitude that we are not going to rely on outside help to specifically boost our show but they are more than welcome to go after the pirates as we don't need theives poisoning the market. But it in no way distracts from us trying to boost ourselves in other ways which is why I don't want to get so distracted with the pirate argument that we overlook new things that could be happening--and we are still disc--just laying low until we see how things shake out.

Maybe that is why SC hasn't embraced the compuhost method currently. Just a thought.

Yes--I have actually been glad that they haven't yet. I think a bit of house cleaning is in order before we embark into the brave new world but there is the risk of falling behind. But with the economy hitting so hard out here, most karaoke money is going toward survival rather than back into the business at the moment so I am glad for the reprieve.

I, for one, am getting tired of seeing this. People have been posting this same drivel for well over a year now, and we have yet to see any evidence at all to the contrary.
Can we just let this one go for awhile?
Please?

Well, that wasn't because they deleted SC or CB, it was because they didn't replace the tracks with other brands. They were stupid, and it cost them the show. Nothing to do with deletion of BRAND, but lack of replacements.

Am I missing an attempt at humor here? Darn stupid pirates should have stolen some other brand to replace the stolen songs that they were afraid to use anymore?

But what if there wasn't another brand that had those songs?

And yes, they were stupid. They were pirates.

kinda......
it wasn't because they deleted the BRAND, but because they deleted the TITLE. were those songs still there by another manu, all would have been well.
