After reading the way the Chartbuster TN lawsuit is worded, I wonder if an individual KJ could SUE pirate KJs in their area for unfair competition.
I could personally blow the whistle on about 20 pirates within 15 miles of me, including the show closest to my venue that often steals my patrons with their "124,000 song library."
I wonder if legal action against these types is possible on the KJ to KJ scale?

Instead of wondering, talk to an attorney that specializes in unfair competetion.

I assume you probably could/can.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
But that brings up an idea for me. I have a "competitor" from about 40 miles away sniffing around my area. They are multi-riggers, 5 systems I think. 50K in karaoke songs.

I assume it is the same in the US as it is here.
These desperate lawyers are offering no win no fee.
They are doing door to door, junk mail, stopping you in the street.
Had an injury that wasn't your fault...
See if you can get one interested.
If there was any way they could make off it...
Three months tops. No more pirates.
I hate these lawyers more than I hate pirates.
They to me are thieving lying trash.
Arrrgh don't get me on that one.

it would depend on the laws in your state...here in Florida after speaking with an Attny we found the cost to bring suit would be prohibitive to us personally but that may differ in your area/situation. We could not find legal counsel that was willing to take this type of suit on a percentage basis (most of our pirates are poor as dirt)

Jerry, everyone says that until they need one.

You must have had quite a lot to do with them.
Have you ever met an honest one?

I've worked for many and never seen anything amiss. Now what do you consider dishonest, the rates they charge?

No. I have seen on a number of occasions that they create work for themselves that was not necessary to do.

I have personally experienced the tactics some of the contingency lawyers invoke in the US. But Jerry, if you want to discuss it, perhaps we should start a new thread?

Perhaps a small claim court, get a lil advice from a lawyer, and sue a pirate for $5000, that probably would put them outta biz

I have spoke to an attorney in this matter, and YES! You can. However, you will run into a problem getting anything from a pirate who is a pirate probably because they didn't have enough money to buy music - and I doubt they got rich off karaoke.
Then, you run into a problem suing bars. Once word gets around, you might have problems finding a gig because there's not many bar owners that will hire someone that sued "one of their own".
Something to think about before you go suing your potential clients...
