Then would you agree that it's a pretty ridiculous stance to say "We're helping the industy!" when in fact, you're no longer even in that industry? just sayin'

SC may not be making new music but they are still selling music. So they may not be as big a player in the game as they used to be but they are still in the industry.
The oldtimers may have all of the SC they need but as relative newcomers, we still buy it to fill holes and requests or upgrade from cheapie versions we started with. I would like to see them back in the new music game.

the material was great. if they can reverse the cranial-rectal inversion thats going on there, it would be nice to see a comeback. many companies have stepped up their game in the last few years and are putting out really high quality material so to see how they would top it........

I'm glad to hear the word was, as in past tense. Why change anything, they love the new business model, they can charge all hosts legal and illegal and never have to make another disc again. Isn't that why they sold their means of production? They have no intention of ever making any new product, just milk the cows, I mean hosts, every year.

Yes--hard to explain to those who think we have been brainwashed by marketing but as a 60s person, music was a huge part of life and almost everyone was in a band or wished they were. And, in fact, every era has those songs that really mean something to that crowd. So there is a certain component of karaoke people that are participating out of the joy of loving "their" music. So yes, you can get servicable version and people can sing it and party and have fun. But when you have a version that nails the essence of what people remember about their song, be it a guitar sequence or drum beat, it really triggers those memories and people start dancing or playing air guitar or really getting into it. And that is what we see with alot of the SC and that is why I would hate to see them go.

Just like I thought Sound Choice blows a mighty wind but nothing comes out of the horn. By the way Polly want an Audit?

That's not very enthusiastic. Maybe, "Hey, baby, how's it spinnin'?" or "What's a slip? Why do I have to fill out a SLIP?" would be a better way to address the disc based host.

Yes there are still some of us old timers around making a living, some use the old carousel machine, I have even seen a couple of the old JVC-303 triple tray disc players. I don't even know where you would get parts for some of the equipment I still see out there being used. These of course are the hosts that have been in the business for a long time, and they still run a decent show.

My Pioneer laserdisc/cdg combo just died on me last week. Luckily a friend of mine was in town, he made a couple calls & knows a couple people that are going to give him their players so he can send it to me! Those were the best players made.

I have one sitting in storage, but it doesn't work. I'm not sure what it would cost to repair, even if it CAN be repaired.

Although there is a local guy that used to, I just cannot get hold of him lately. A friend of mine is going to start working on them. I'm going to give him all of my broken machines to build me one good one and he can keep the rest for parts.

It simply won't read any discs, and I can't remember what the error said. It's currently in storage and I can't get to it (waaaay in the back), so I can't even dig it out to check. We will be moving our stored stuff to a unit at home that we are going to build, so I can check it at that time, but I'm just not sure how soon or when that will be.

Lonnie, I am going to keep one of mine but I still have a denon and a Pioneer unit that both work (or did when I put them away) they are yours for the packing/shipping cost. Also I believe that imtron still works on the old laser units but they are in Maryland, you can call Sherry @ (301) 590-0700 and ask, or contact them through http://www.imtrononline.com/ a lot of their customers own extensive laser collections so I believe they still service the old machines.
