I mentioned in another thread that I lost a karaoke show this week to a possible pirate. Summertime in this area is very slow! We only get like 4-5 months out of the year to have outdoor activities, and the bars get really slow.

So I had a couple people check in on the show. It was unanimous. TERRIBLE! Kind of made me feel good (although I was not the one who actually ran the show, but I have a lot of confidence in my guy that did run it).

Best news came tonight. The DJ/KJ at the bar a few blocks away was fired for some unknown reason, and as I understand it, they are scrambling to "figure something out".

Oh how I love to stick it in the face of the bar owner who thinks he can do better than us.

Even with that being said, I am going to send a letter to the owner that replaced us to tell him "I heard what a disaster Thursday was. Just want to let you know we are still available. We will work with you through the summer as far as price goes. No hard feelings".

But MAN! I want the gig down the road just so I can say HA F'ING HA!

Troy, my weak point of being a business person is taking certain things personal. I will never work for him, too many games, not a straight shooter, flat out lied to me, tried to sabotage me at another gig. Thing is, he wants to have outdoor bands like Missippi Brew does in our hometown. They have a beer garden overlooking the river. He couldn't do it where he was but this new place has an outdoor area fenced in. However, I've heard from a number of local folks that every time bands have played here in the past, the cops show up due to complaints. Big debate as to whether it's acceptable under city policies.

Other point is he is banking on people traveling down a highway nearly 15 minutes to go to his bar. Lots of people will stay in town due to drinking and driving issue. Bands in town so why drive? So he is headed towards strike two in my book, local people in the small town would rather go to my bar, within walking distance, smoking is allowed and it's established. I'm welcoming the challenge from this guy and his wife. If they try karaoke with a pirate again, I'll squash them just out of spite.

Sorry, like I said, it's my weakness, treat me with dignity and respect, you will get the same with me. Just too much baggage working with him.

I don't care how "nice" the facilities are, I have to agree with the above that if a club is located where you have to drive to it with nothing else conveniently close - as a "destination" - then it will die a slow death.

I've seen it here with clubs that are simply isolated in the midst of an industrial area, lots of the industry people show up for lunches, but at night, no one lives close and the weekends are worse.... a ghost town.

Yep. And this place isn't all that nice. Not run down but not modern or nice.
