Kinda right but different for me. I see pirated drives because of -as you stated - similar graphic and audio gltches. However these drives, in the majority, contain karaoke mfr. production quality tracks, not the limewire crap that was out there.
By the way- going back to do's posts, Jim is WAY overdue on "the big announcement" -again. Just sayin'.........

KJ ripped tracks can be equally (if not better in many cases) than manu produced mp3g like from some of the original downloads from like Sunfly, SBI, All Star, etc. Sound Choice never offered downloads with graphics. They only offered audio only.

Think of it as over-access. Example:
Atlantic City is our NJ answer to Las Vegas. It has been kicking serious butt for many years. One and a half years ago the casinos pushed for and got legal online betting here. Great. In just that amount of time over half the casinos have declared bankruptcy. Why? Those looking for a "casino experience" do not bet as much as the degenerate gambling junkies who do not care about "the experience" and are happy to play from home.
The casinos actually obsoleted themselves - as did those karaoke producers that put their content online in hackable cyberspace.
Tiffany's doesn't store their diamonds in "secure" public storage. They keep them in inaccessible guarded vaults. Think about it.
Sorry, but offering more downloads is DEFINITELY not an anti-piracy option.

I contend that it's because Atlantic City is a total sh!t-hole and casino's are as well. Online gambling didn't kill Atlantic City, actual Vegas size & quality casinos in Connecticut did. Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, etc. New yorkers would rather go north for a 5-star experience than south to the slums.

There are too many factors to say exactly why the casinos started closing. But I am guessing the global recession played a larger part than opening things up to online gambling.

I'm betting it's because of the tribal casinos being allowed to open in most states with full gambling facilities. When we go out to gamble, it's local or out of city, but still in this state. No longer is it a trip to Reno or Vegas. Haven't been there in years and really have no desire anymore. Just as good of gaming right here, and most states offer the same type of tribal casinos. Online had nothing to do with it, as a matter of fact, online gambling is illegal (at least in Washington).

Paradigm Karaoke wrote: and offering them on CD is? Not neccesarily CDs. Tiffany's puts their diamonds in a vault - which can't be opened with bolt cutters - and to limit access with the help of guards, alarms, and survaillence. As you may know from many newscasts, several government computers have been hacked as well as credit card companies, banks, and utilities. I seriously doubt that karaoke producers have stronger security protocols. Using hard media of some sort, limiting the amount of tracks on each unit means the whole catalogue cannot be accessed at once. Using what someone here described as "mission impossible" protection will delay theft both on it's own and with the addition of separating the track access make piracy even more difficult. Plus one has to be in possession of the actual media. Much of this is what kept disc piracy to a miniscule fraction of on line mp3 file theft. Discs? Cards? Thumb drives? Protein strings? Optical clusters? Whatever floats your boat.

Jim already stated that it would be useless to anyone not running on PC. Nothing for me to count down TO.

Mohegan Sun & Foxwood are massive, Vegas quality tribal casinos just a few hours north of NYC. Both have large arenas for major concert acts & events, 5-star restaurants, etc. Atlantic City still looks, feels & smells like 1978. It's no wonder nobody goes.

I knew kj after kj that owned cd duplicators & ripping systems and would trade their libraries with other kj's and flat out copy customer discs on the spot at the show while working. I was made that offer to trade many times but refused simply because I didn't want the competition to have what I offered as well. Going back to the JOLT days, always heard about kj's talking about other kj's with fully burned libraries. I even used to see full burned libraries for sale on ebay back then when looking for discs. So while it may not have been as rampant as when mp3g came out, it was very much alive & well with discs & computer with the bin files.

Mohegan Sun in Connecticut is nice but needs an upgrade. Dj'd a NYE event there years ago. There's casinos everywhere in the NE it seems. Vegas is still the best of the worst overall imo.

Dining, Shows and Attractions are 10-fold in Vegas as compared to any of these other places. AND, it definitely puts Atlantic City to shame (both in quantity and quality). One thing AC had going for it, was the convenience of its location in the NE region, and that you weren't stuck in just one casino for the day (as compared to going to M-Sun or Foxwoods for a day). Also, AC had fixed up the main street in the city and added lots of new shopping to it. I'll admit, the rest of the area is still slums.

Well until this so called announcement comes, I guess I will indulge in my own bit of speculation.
There is one thing that soundchoice would be able to offer that would not require the publishers at all.
Offer up just their music/catalog *no graphics*. They would be able to sell all 18,000 tracks as long as they got permission from stingray.
Not what I would prefer, but it's the only thing that I can think of

I said miniscule compared to mp3 piracy due to easy pickings on line - which it was. Not even a tenth of what occurs now that online mp3s made it so easy to download to equipment found in almost every home.

But it still don't mean it was ever because of manu offered mp3g's is what I was getting at. Most of what is available came from ripped discs originally. Maybe today mp3g downloads may be the case, but that isn't how it started!
