I gotta say, though, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of meeting some (more) of the people that I communicate with on these karaoke forums.

For swimming, we'd be packin' sharpened, polished clear acrylic shanks in our extra long shorts.... (hard to spot and don't rust)

They have decided to sit on the side lines, and not invest so much money in suits, until some type of legal precedent is established. Oh by the way I have no Stellar so that is one less manu I have to worry about. I'm glad to hear you are such a collector, this was a hobby before I decided to try my hand as a host. Don't feed the beast! Dunno about Stellar but CB is already in. They are active in filing as well. $200 per system per year is cheap when you consider the cost of paying for lawyers and after the fact audits when you are named in a suit. Cost of doing business. Just like buying business insurance, paying business taxes and other operational expenses. After all anyone that does it even as a hobby job is required to run it like a business. You do pay taxes on your Karaoke business don't you?

You do pay taxes on your Karaoke business don't you? It's not the cost of doing business. It's protection money. Keep paying us and we won't sue you. I'm pretty sure the mob did that at one time, as well, only it wasn't lawsuits, it was broken bones. Could you imagine if manufacturers of other types of goods started mandating yearly charges for the use of their products the way Sound Choice and CB are? I work in a law office. Would it be reasonable that I pay for the paper I use, and then an additional tax to the paper companies at the end of the year based on how much paper I used or how many copies I made? And if I didn't, I wouldn't be allowed to use any more paper? Or how many phone calls I made, even though I pay for telephone service and for each call already? If it smells like bull**** and sounds like bull**** -- it's probably bull****. I pay taxes to the government for the privilege of living and working here. The government has a right to charge me. Karaoke manufacturers do not. They can't declare themselves the Karaoke government, and all of a sudden threaten me if I don't play along. Feel free to buy into it, Rumbolt, but I have no interest. IP is not a consumable and can be copied for next to nothing. You can't make a copy of your office paper, pens, desks, etc for almost next to nothing.

C'mon Bird, you know better. If that were the case there would be no Copyright, Trademark, Patent Laws, or Terms of Use that comes with vitually every piece of IP. Even your lawyers would say that. Maybe you can get one of your lawyers to come on board and give their legal opinions on this.

The terms of the sale weren't suddenly changed and fees demanded of him 15 years after the fact!

Bah! Haters! If you are running Vista, let me know and I can help tweak things and make it a more enjoyable experience for you.

My personal experience with Vista has been.....
wait for it....
NO PROBLEMS.
Zero. Zilch.
My Vista laptop (three years as a show computer) is still running without any issues. I have it in my office for a back-up/test-bed.
The desktop that I am using as my main computer is also a Vista machine, it is a gaming rig and I will be upgrading so that a 64 bit OS can see 12GB of DDR3 RAM.
Haters gonna hate. Prejudice prevails.

Haters gonna hate. Prejudice prevails. "Haters gonna hate"? You act like it is the several million people burned by Microsoft that are the problem here. It's easy for you to toss out flippant trendy putdowns, but there was real trouble out there. There was well over a year of broken applications and non-working hardware devices, before Microsoft finally fixed Vista with myriad patches. The three leading PC publications variously called it "worst operating system of all time", "#2 of 25 biggest software flops ever", and "Biggest disappointment of 2007". I know two people who couldn't afford to who had to 1) buy new computers, or 2) scramble to get an XP downgrade, which Microsoft had to make available through sheer necessity. Bottom line is that Vista was among the worst operating system releases of all time. Everyone who knows anything agrees about that. Yes, it mostly works now. But the head-scratching menu setup and behaviors still remain, so it is an operating system not recommended for anyone except current owners. I feel for anyone doing anything new at all with it if they haven't turned off UAC.

Amen to that! When I first got my Vista computer, all of my hardware was instantly rendered obsolete. I had to keep an XP set-up so I wouldn't have to replace equipment that was olny a year old. Of course networking the two was a little tricky as well. The Vista works better now after lots of updates and tweaking. Of course none of my hardware will function with it yet. Hmm.... maybe I need to install a Y2K update....
