I just wanted to say being legal and certified has finally paid off with a brand new gig that hired me because i am Certified Legal By Sound Choice And Chartbuster. And Is Paying Me Accordingly. Thanks To All That Helped Me Through The Process. And Sound Choice For Bringing The Programs To Educate The Venue's. Thanks Kurt. Howard Sterling Karaoke

So my next question for MR. Slep is this .............now that bars appear to be looking to hire "Certified" KJ's with certification documents...........what about those who are all disc--no puter?
Now I realize that SC's position is that if you are all disc then you are legal and good to go............however when seeking a new gig this will not be enough....even if you show your discs to a prospective venue they STILL WILL WANT TO SEE THE CERIFICATION DOCUMENT AND THAT YOU ARE ON THE LIST OF CERTIFIED KJ's on line. So how are we "Legal Disc-Based" KJ's supposed to satisfy that requirement?
Simple! The Answer is that we too go through the cert process via Skype and receive the certification documentation!
Opinions???

I would consider that that cost of doing business. Jump through the hoops to guarantee your revenue stream.
The industry is changing. Change with it or risk getting left behind.

Opinions??? If you are not using a computer, there is no certification process to go through, because there is no computer to examine. My recommendation is to register as a KJ at scsafeharbor.com. When asked in the questionnaire, simply indicate that you are disc-based. You will receive a registration number that you can give to the venue, and encourage them to sign up as well. No certificate is needed.

@HarringtonLaw - Certainly you are aware that there are hosts out there that are 100% disc based and everyone of their discs are burned copies.
How can there be no certification process involved if there is no computer involved?

-Chris That's true, although it is fairly rare these days. You can be a disc-based host and get certified with your burned copies. I suppose to be more complete, I should have said: HarringtonLaw wrote: If you are not using media-shifted copies, there is no certification process to go through, because there are no media-shifted copies to examine. Thanks for prompting me to a correction.

No certificate is needed. I would highly recommend that ANYONE that considers signing a "safe harbor" agreement consult with an attorney OF THEIR OWN. The Safe Harbor agreement is weighted in SC's favor and DOES NOT guarantee that any venue will be free from a lawsuit from SC. In my opinion, it's one of the worst documents any venue could ever sign. It's less hassle (and free) to simply drop the brand entirely. You can guarantee your venue that SC won't sue you if you simply don't use their brand at all. No audit, no payments, no skype, no nuthin' Not a single KJ has been sued that doesn't use their product.

If you maintain 1:1 correspondence, do the notification, and subject the discs to the audit procedure, you are within the media-shifting policy. That doesn't mean you can go on the Pirate Bay, or wherever, and download tracks to burn onto discs. You still have to own, possess, and store the original media.
