I guess what I am trying to say is that we need to refocus on piracy and let the manus lawyers do their jobs.

Now that is a very sane comment rumbolt!

Hopefully you will get some more biz there in Knoxville since these actions are being taken by the manus!

I just did a Yahoo/Google search of the names and/or companies listed...

Also note that Lonnie's Western Room in Nashville is one of the most famous karaoke venues in Nashville! That is a BIG TIME sting for sure!

I dont care how hard working a criminal is, or if they put on a good show or not.

If they depend on pirated songlists they have an unfair advantage.

Some are going to have the skills to run a good show some may not, (and the songlist is only a part of what it takes to be a KJ).

What expecting legal karaoke to be the standard does is level the playing field.

A few years ago it may have been standard for a club to run karaoke with 1000 songs, now that is a thing of the past in most places.

At that time a dedicated host could have shown his effort by building up a 5000-10,000 song list, and if his had the other skills, could shine as a KJ in their market.

Now it seems that one has to start off with thousands of songs, just to provide what the singers expect as the standard minimum.

What this does is prevent the legal KJ from entering the field with a minimal investment.

My experience is that illegal KJs will be sloppy and unprofessional in many ways besides their song lists.

The good KJ that will become real competitors in the business are the ones that are hard working and legal. They need to go through the process of starting with a few songs and build up their reputation. The pirates are more of a barrier to them than the existing KJs with good reputations.

As it is KJ is only open to those willing to front a 5-10k minimum investment, or act illegally.

Those that don't fear karoke pirates are more scared of the person able to invest $2000 legally to start a show at the entry level, than a unprofessional KJ who is pirateing.

I think a KJ who is entering the business with a 2k investment of his own will help the reputation of karaoke by doing a good job, while the average pirate who downloads most of his songs will do a poorer job on average.

Lets see, the concept is simple, it costs money to produce a product. If your product is stolen, then you have no income. No income, no money to make new product. No new product, you lose customers. At one time prehardrives they could produce many songs because they sold and the money made was reinvested. When illegal hardrives came on the scene, they lost income so now they are down to maybe a couple of discs a month. If one is losing product to thieves (read pirate) and lawsuits are an option to recoup their loss they will do it. Why cannot some of you understand this.

Haven't posted in forever, but "hallelujah!" after seeing this. There's a couple of other places I thought might've been on that list if they were looking around this area, but hey, I'll take some progress over no progress any day! You never know how it'll work out in the courts of course, but maybe it'll "turn a few pirate heads" around here (wishful thinking lol , I know...but there's always hope).
