They are also EXTREMELY busy !
the extremely busy thing I can understand if it were simply one witch experiencing difficulties Kappy, as it stands now there is quite a percentage of people that are inconvenienced by this...I would think that busy or not they should be jumping thru hoops, its called customer service

Vicki, The thing is they have NO new answers. It appears that Phill is stuck alone
(at least) today with this issue. He's asked those of us he's been in contact with to relay his message which is verbatim
Quote: bizarre - I checked all our settings and they are correct. I checked a few of the individuals that claimed they were experiencing problems and I cannot determine where there is a problem. Their accounts are active and their IPs are not blocked. So I am at a complete loss!! At least that was as of a few hours back. Additionally, Quote: Steven, I am swamped you can certainly pass the details of what I know thus far on to the members of the site...
There's no LARGE team working on this today. Prior to notification of the AOL, and "other" ISP aspect, Phill didn't believe it likely to be anything he could do since it had the makings of a 24 to 72 hour auto Verizon DNS update that needed to be ironed out from the Verizon end, and not Karaokescene end. I don't even think ALL are able to get KS Emails !

um ok.. but if nothing changed on KS's end that required a DNS update .. then that shouldn't be a problem..
there are certain things that change that cause the Internet servers to update DNS..
example... repointing a url to a new IP... changing IP's... new servers that have new IP's... changing host servers, providers, etc..
and if there was something that "broke" the DNS for KS.. then it takes every ISP awhile to update their DNS servers... some use a cache server.. meaning it only might really go out to the Net to update to the newest info.. maybe once a week.. maybe once a month.. etc.. whatever schedule the ISP has their cache server set for.
Some ISP's dont use cache servers at all.. hence.. they would instantaneously be updated when the "whois" is updated.. which usually takes about 24-36 hours if I recall correctly.. but I checked the "whois" and didn't see anything had changed recently.. except.. I guess I checked karaokescene.com... not karaoke-forum.com I guess.
that's why I'd asked Vicki to do the nslookup info with her DNS server.. to see if her server is able to resolve the address..
if KS did do something to cause a new DNS record to be put out on the Net.. then Internet users have to rely on their ISP's time schedule for their DNS servers to finally "catch up" to the change..
Kind of like.. a road map... I have one from 1996... but just last year they put in a new highway..and they removed a main highway right thru the city.. well.. I have to wait for the roadmap printers to print up a new map showing the new road..and no longer show the old one and meanwhile.. they continue to sell the old map to consumers until they get their new one printed.. People that drive and use the old map.. will hit a dead end if they take that road that was removed

yeah but the tracert isn't what i"m looking for..
nslookup
does something entirely different it'll actually determine whether your ISP's servers can even FIND this site..
like this...
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.karaoke-forum.com
Address: 64.20.49.194
Means that the DNS server I used to try to "find" this site.. CAN find it
whereas.. a tracert just lets you know if your signal is getting thru all routers its supposed to in order to reach the site.. and if not.. at which point did it fail..
BUT.. the problem with tracerts and pings is the fact that... any router along the way (a hop) can have those features turned off... to try to hide that there's a legitimate IP address from possible hackers...

The last successful hop on your tracert looks like
64.20.32.6
so I looked up the DNS servers for that IP.. and it looks to be probably Phill's.. I'm guessing cuz of the "cross" in the name of the DNS servers for that IP .. I could be wrongggggggggggg
here were my results on the nslookup for the DNS servers for that particular router's IP address: (they were all successful ... but .. I do find it interesting that the resulting IP for karaoke-forum.com is different than what my ISP's DNS servers seem to resolve to.. wonder what's up with that... that in itself would kind of throw a DNS problem flag up)

Good evening~ I didn't realize that there was already a thread posting several of 'us' having so much difficulties. I did get the email addy (proxy)-however I've tried for the heck of it to sub a song and it won't let me. I cannot even go to my 'profile' - it comes up saying : 'This page cannot be found'...
As I have read each post here, I, too am on verizon, however not everyone is. So there is definitely a glitch ...where??? Who knows.
I want to thank Lady Danielle and Lady Vicki for passing on this 'proxy' addy. If it weren't for them or this addy, I , too wouldn't have known as to how to get back on. I also want to say that I, too lost (trying to make access here) on Saturday!~
I know there are a lot of crazy and mysterious things that happen, however YOU are not alone- I've learned to take a deep breath and let it go...in hopes of making any progress on this unfortunate happenings. What the heck did we all do before 'computer's'? !~
Thank you and once again I do apologize for the thread I started a few minutes ago--YOU (mods) may remove it as I will keep checking on this one!~
In hopes of finding a cure soon

I've checked 6 other DNS servers... 4 from my ISP.. and 2 from another one.. and they resolve karaoke-forum.com
to this IP:
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.karaoke-forum.com
Address: 64.20.49.194
Which is NOT the ip that the DNS servers for your last successful hop are pointing traffic to karaoke-forum.com to Vicki.

MAYBE IT IS ME WHO HIT THE WRONG KEY=HOWEVER I DON'T THINK SO!~ I HAVE MY GUYS WHO TAKE CARE OF THE PROGRAM AND THEY TOO, BEING PRODUCTION MANAGERS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO THINK? BUT AM LOOKING FOR AID HERE. I DO THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH:)
AND 'DON'T GIVE UP' THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL:)

my tracert looks like this...
5 94 ms 92 ms 94 ms POS1-0.GW2.MSP3.ALTER.NET [65.206.183.213]
6 93 ms 94 ms 93 ms 0.so-0-2-0.CL1.MSP3.ALTER.NET [152.63.66.46]

16 138 ms 129 ms 128 ms karaokescene.com [64.20.49.194]
so.. yeah Vicki.. it looks like someone ALONG THE WAY to karaoke-forum.com is having trouble knowing where to direct traffic.. not your ISP it looks like.. somewhere else along the net ... which YOU and YOUR ISP are powerless to fix..
basically this site will be unusable to anyone traveling along the same path you are to get to this url until the people along the highway get their stuff in line with the rest of the world..
not great news is it.. sorry..

Dee.. your Audition issue would be software related.. not Internet.. sorry.. check the help files for how to add things to your favorites is what I'd suggest.. the timing would definitely be a coincidence in that respect.

Cindy, Regarding America Online. Can a recent AOL Firewall update have caused this ? There appears to have been one. I'm going to turn off my America Online firewall, and see if there's a difference !!
Manual changes to safety and security settings didn't make a difference.
I turned off AOL firewall, I allowed ALL popups, I went into my IE and changes browsers, I lowered my security setting from Med-High to Med, I turned off AOL Highspeed access.. Of course wouldn't it be interesting if it just so happens that ALL having this problem just happen to have the America Online "Safety and Security" feature which loves to control your system assuming it can ?? This updates frequently..

I really don't think so Steven.. It just seems like a path out on the net that "some" ISP's are taking to route traffic..
If your firewall takes care of it.. then I'd say you've got another unrelated issue to why some of the others can't get here..

Ok, add me to the list of those with woes...(inability to connect to SS or KS). This has been occuring since yesterday and I just thought Phils site was down for awhile as sometimes outages can occur. I thought it odd to still be down today so I started investigating and found I could ping SS and KS from external portals. I contacted my ISP (Time Warner - Roadrunner) and the guy at the service desk couldn't access either. So then I knew it wasn't just me blocked by KS. I went looking for web proxy portals (as there are tons) here is the one I am currently using if anyone else needs to access: http://www.avoidr.com/
So Steven, no it isn't your problem or anything wrong with your pc or software. It may be some type of DNS record update even though supposedly nothing has changed. Perhaps this is the continuation of some type of web attack that started with the gray font?
I have contacted Road Runner Traces and so they should be investigating where the blockage is - but it seems to be somehow network related. If I get a chance I may look into what the various addresses resolve as. Foxey mentioned some...are you saying the route that you are accessing is not what others (unable to connect) are being resolved as? If so then like you say a DNS issue.
