There seems to be a possibility that the KARMA option may be the cause of some turmoil...
I certainly don't want that...
It is supposed to be just for fun but I can see how some might be upset at getting negative Karma or not as much Karma as another member.
It isn't a contest but I suppose some could see it that way.
So the question is Keep it or Kan it?
Please state why...

political correctness gone insane... if you are so sensitive or imbalanced to the point that something as goofy as a Karma Meter causes you emotional anguish then you have bigger problems than that issue. again, it is something you can either participate in, or utilize, or it is something that you can ignore and not use. Is that so hard??? obviously, it must be....

As far as I see - its just a laugh! Can be ignored or used for a good source of ribbing and ridicule...
Don't see why anyone would get seriously upset about it... :S

These are my feelings regarding this "popularity" game, and why I
believe it should be done away with.
.
I anticipate these questions/thoughts will go thru the minds of many.
"If I don't like you, I will negative bomb you"
"If I like you, I will give you positive Karma"
"Why does she have 5, and I have a -1 ?"
"Who gave me the negative ? "
"Why did they give me the negative ?"
"you critiqued me poorly, now I shall give you bad Karma"
"I know you are sensitive, I can cause discomfort with negative Karma"
It's a direct reflection on a personality, and popularity. There's nothing objective about this. Additionally who likes receiving negative Karma? I don't take stuff like this overly seriously, yet some are more superstitious and sensitive than others as well. when you give negative Karma to someone, what are you saying ? Where's the game here ?
I say too many negative undertones go along with this. and in time feelings will be hurt. It's not just a game. Whether we wish to be apart of this "judging" of us (or not), the results sit under our avatar in plain view. Like the uninvited "critique".
I see a medium here for playing "ugly games", added competition among people that want no part of competition, or feeling "judged".
This can be a great way of telling people you don't like them behind their back, or retaliating for the critique in SS.
A great means of camouflaged character attacking using a guise of "playful needling and teasing".
Let me be more concise now.
It's my understanding this site is designed as a place where ALL ages of people, all religious beliefs, and even the more sensitive people are welcome. A place where all should feel comfortable. This supposed game, is a source of upset particularly to the superstitious, and more sensitive members.

Huhm. The whole Karma thingy seems harmless at first glance, yet I can't help but feel as though it's just another way for people on the internet to attack others ANONYMOUSLY. <yawn> I, for one, don't feel the need to subject self to anonymous criticism or anonymous negativity.
There are pulenty of mediocre places on the internet where people can go to insult each other and get their impotent rage on. Can't this site be different? I really like this site so far because the people seem real genuine and disinterested in attacking others behind the safety of an internet veil.
If given a choice, I will always choose not to invite strangers to write negative characterizations on the slate of who I am. <shrug>

I doubt it's a good idea to keep it around.
I'm already seeing people getting completely undeserved 'negative' karma (not talking about myself here). Unless...., another option might be to just get rid of the 'negative' karma thing. I think that's the 'hurtful' aspect. I doubt too many folks will get ruffled about not having as much POSITIVE karma as someone else, but having more NEGATIVE than everyone else?? What a bummer!!
I DO NOT like Negative karma.... I do not like it in a can, I do not like it Sam I Am... or uh.. am not...

I see good and bad sides in it.
BADs (for example)
1. It may be misused. Someone might for some personal reasons want to affect someone's karma and maybe even try to get others to follow.
2. If someone keeps getting bad karma and doesn't understand why, this forum might turn really badly inwards and keep interesting new people away.
GOODs (for example)
1. If somebody really misbehaves, it could be indicated with bad karma. So anyone who doesn't want bad karma would try to get along with people better.
2. If someone is really a good guy, it can be indicated with karma and for example people with questions would know who could be helpful or a nice user to interact with.
I'm going to vote against it but if it's kept, I'll live with it!
Cheers, jee

I vote can it, for the same reasons that Steve, Seby and Jee gave (I'm not gonna type them all out again)...
Personally, it doesn't bother me if someone wants to give me bad karma, but there are those who WOULD be bothered, and might be inclined to participate less in the forums in case people didn't like what they were saying...
That would make for a pretty boring forum, imo!!!

I think its kinda cute ~~ but do understand what some are saying about it becoming a possible "retaliation" tool. Sort of a sad commentary though, that it could possibly be used maliciously. {heavy sigh} :argue: :(
Could it be a personal option Phill... if ya want to have it, cool ~~ if not, thats cool too???
Whatever the majority chooses is fine with me.

Don't care either way. If someone don't like someone for what they type (most of us don't know each other personally other than from right here - this don't apply to all obviously) & decides to put a negative beside them - again without really knowing them, I think that really reverts back to junior high or earlier personally.
