I suggest we have a concise newbie read first area for several of the main technical topics. It seems we are posting much of the same things over and over and over and over and over. It's my opinion that newbies would look through read first stickies before searching or posting. Even if they do post, and they will, it would be easier to point them to the posts instead of writing it all out all over again.

Posts on:
Why not to use home theater systems.
Watts explained
Base equipment recommendations for starter home systems.
Mic buying rules.
We have the software sticky
(others I am sure)

They need to be easy to read without side comments and a lot of fluff.

I agree 1000% and it was exactly that reason that drove me to compile the "What is the best software?" sticky after seeing the same question asked weekly for months.

However, I have suggested several stickies such as these over the years and the idea was always shot down as "unnecessary and unneeded". The conversation about making a "How to find karaoke music" sticky was like pulling teeth until Gemini took it upon himself to compile one. I don't know why the subject of stickies here is met with such disdain, unlike most forums where they are deemed essential.

My suggestion to you is just do it and write them. Then after they become the defacto go-to thread, they will have no choice but to make them stickies.

Long time ago, I too suggested stickies for things such as software, hardware, ect.....
Wasn't met with much excitement

I think the biggest problem would be for people to keep there negative opinions to themselves. Yes it would be OK to post CONS about stuff, but some people can just get rude.

The Stickies should be locked. Use a work thread to compile a consensus and post it to a single sticky post that isn't commented on.

good idea but most newbies are just that.

most can only do the basics with a computer let alone look up info on this website as the newbie terminology is different then the well versed computer literate karaoke host.

I agree, but it would save a bunch of typing if you could simply post the URL to the sticky. Tell them to go through that first and if they still have questions post them.
