Hello! thanks welcoming me to the forums.
I think you're right; i does seem that karaoke has been gaining ground inthe past decade Stateside, but it is very difficult to find demographic info. I'm also trying to compiled a list of top 50 karaoke spots, but i can only speak for regional places (I've lived in LA and NY).
That's interested that more people are starting to invest in home systems, but it seems like an accurate projection. I will have to look into those number also!
I am sure those numbers would be easy to find out from the manufactures of the "home systems", but then again some home systems are entry level pro PA equipment.

Do you think companies that sell karaoke equipment might have a better idea of karaoke numbers?
I realy don't think that would work either. Most professional Karaoke Jocks(KJs) use PRO PA equipment, the same stuff used for live band and such. Trying to calculate which products are used for karaoke only would be very difficult. Usualy the things labeled like "Karoker mixer" are usualy of less quality, and would only be good for home use, not that some "KJs" still use the stuff.
I am thinking that the best way to get the most of the info needed is by experinceing it. You could check out shows in many places, and each one will be different. There are no set rules on how to run a karaoke show. Karaoke is a great form of enterrtainment, either @ a home party, or going to the local bar to see your fav KJ, have a few drinks, and sing some songs.
