Hi,
Is it Illegal to download MP3+G from MIRC Karaoke-Realm?
I found this information for SetUp and Purchase through Karaoke Info.
What's the difference between downloading from Cavs, Tricerasoft,
or Karaoke Realm?
What specificly do I look for to spot a Site that's Illegal.
Does Anyone Know for Sure?
Not just an opinion, but Federal or State LAW!
For Strickly Personal Home Use!
Kind Regards,
sw00000p

the site you are referring to as Karaoke Info is definitely an illegal site. Why it has not been shut down yet is beyond me
Cavs & Tricera Soft are both legal sites that you can download from with confidence as they both are licensed to sell and pay royalties. I cannot speak for Karaoke Realm as I have never been there.

Thanks for your advise. I'm trying to learn how to spot the bad sites.
What do you base your answer on? Is it word of mouth or do you check
a certain Web Site or something? I don't doubt you at all. I'm just trying
to learn how to Spot the Bad Ones.
THANKS,
sw00000p

The law in the US is the whim of the court so if you're looking for a black and white answer try http://www.megalaw.com/top/copyright/copyrightact.php and take your best guess like the rest of us.
CDG is a patented format.
MP3 is a patented format.
The songwriter has a copyright on the song.
The performers of the song have a copyright on the performance.
Is it reasonable to think that all of those folks waved their due fees just so that you can download the song for free?

exweedfarmer,
I highly respect your opinion and thank you for your response.
When I do Google Search for Mp3+G downloads, a list pops up
with numerous Sites to choose from.
How does One determine if a Site is Licensed to Sell Karaoke and
Paying Royalties?
Also: If a Site such as Karaoke Info is labled as Definitely Illegal,
how do they stay in business for so many years; while other
sites are completely shut down?
Where in the Law Books do you look for that?
Kind Regards,
sw00000p

My understanding is that, the site you refer to, is not selling any download. The site teaches people how to find those 'free' downloads; for a fee. That is why it is still up there.

Jian,
Thank you very much for your answer. After checking, You are right.
Karaoke Info doesn't sell any downloads. They are selling a Guide
which teaches you how to setup on a Mirc Channel and join a
Private, Password Protected, Karaoke Site, "Karaoke-Reallm"
The Guide states the Fee paid is for the Setup and License to
download from Karaoke-Realm. Which is based in the UK.
Karaoke-Realm also charges a Registration Fee to remain there.
Wow, Pay one fee and download over 300,000 Karaoke Tracks.
Karaoke Info:
Disclaimer: The Computer-Karaoke Guide™ and Support Bulletin Board are for informational purposes only.
It is the user's responsibility to be aware of copyright laws in his/her country.
Please do not create illegal copies.
Perhaps in the U.S. it is Illegal. But untill the Courts make a final ruling......Who Knows!
Is there a place to find out if Karaoke-Realm is Licensed and Paying Royalties?

Pay for the software and get into the IRC ring.
Download a Sound Choice song.
Check with Sound Choice.
This will confirm that the copy you just downloaded is illegal and it only cost you $60.00 to do so. There's proof.

exweedfarmer,
Thanks, but I'll pass. Sounds too good to be true.
Think I'll check with Sound Choice and some of the Others first.
Why aren't they shut down if they're illegal??????

Logging onto most MIRC nets or chat rooms requires very good fire walls. You are dealing with world wide pros now. Do a search on MIRC commands They are very lethal..
I assume you are referring to a chat room that provides sharing via servers..

karyoker,
According to the advertisement this is not the ordinary Nets or Chat Room.
You Don't Chat At All.
Advertisement:
This is the largest, safest, most secure online karaoke community in the world!
Secure, Safe, Private

Private-Password Protected Site
Every user's safety & security is our top priority. In all this time, not a single user has ever acquired a virus or other 'nasty' using this system. That's right: Never!
Now if this is a Scam or Illegal how do they stay in business for YEARS.

Quote: Now if this is a Scam or Illegal how do they stay in business for YEARS.
Police like their paychecks and the fact that they get to bully people with guns.
Lawers like their paychecks and the fact that they get to bully people with the law.
Judges like their paychecks and the fact that they get to bully people with a lot of police-person's guns. Going after these folks affords no paycheck and little opportunity to bully and therefore, US law enforcement is not interested.
As the author of MIRC seems to have an arabic name I suspect the site might be beyond the reach of US law enforcement. If that's the case they could not be arrested for transmitting the MP3s but you could be arrested for having them.
That's one way anyway....

sw00000p,
mIRC uses the "chat room" technology to request the downloads from other folk's "servers"... you can chat all you want, but it's not necessary. You just poll their server and request what you want.
Once you qualify to be a member of said site.

Hey Guys,
Ahhh, finally some closure. Thanks for helping me understand how Web Sites can wiggle their way around around the law.
I've learned that U.S. Law enforcement has its Limits and that MIRC uses others Servers.
Thanks Everyone,
