I figure there are enough software savvy guys on here to ask.  What is a good and simple program to make EXACT versions of DVDs?  (including menu/tracks etc..)  I have a lot of movies at home that I would like to back up on a harddrive.. any suggestions?

DvdFab - I believe at dvdfab dot com. It will compress entire larger, more modern movies at full original quality to fit on dual layer dvd disks. It will do menus and special features, as well as the full length movie. It will rip to hd or to dvd.

dvdshrink is another... lets you do the ripping, and you burn with nero.

You have to do a bit of google searching, as with american copyrights, they don't sell it, so you have to find it hosted on sites outside the U.S.

That's real easy Morgan with Smartripper. It will create .Ac3 files which can then be converted to .Wav, or Mp3 using Clier's Ac3tool.

I do this all the time because for songs I sub to SS, I record first using my home theatre system to Dvd-Rw.  I then use this method to extract the audio from the Dvd.

I believe both of these programs are free. Smartripper has numerous options which could be confusing, but I can tell you what to select. Once you know, it's always that same and very quick / straightforward.

THanks... for the INFO.. I tried dvdshrink.. works pretty well.  My question is it creates a folder for the movie. then within it creates a folder for Video TS and Audio TS... It seems that no matter which file I open under Video TS folder.. it opens the whole movie... how do these files work?
