I have Karafun as my software to play the music.  That site has KFN file to download for about 2.99<<seems high.  I dont want the fancy backgrounds since my equipment is only for home use only.

What do you like best CDG ? MP3G or KFN?  Im alittle confused on which to buy and store on my external hard drive that I buy.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Gayle

Like with most products , if you stick with the BRAND NAMES HARD DRIVES you will probably do okay. (maxtor  / western / etc. )

I would suggest for your needs to look at MP3+G FILES

KFN is a Karafun exclusive format and has features not found in most karaoke files.
CD+G or CDG is redbook audio (very close to raw PCM) with the graphics information just kinda squeezed in on a CD.  MP3 + G is a compressed format which is created by tossing out most of the audio that you don't really need and then compressing the rest.  The graphics stay pretty much intact.
There are additional formats but most poeple use MP3+G to save hard drive space and many people zip the resulting file pair.  And thats really is all I'm going to say about zipping karaoke files...really.

Karafun is a really nifty home player but it's not the only one.

exweedfarmer:  The software player winamp I downloaded once and was told to get the plug in and put it in the file.  I could never get it working.  I think I just didnt really know how to do it correctly.  By putting the plug-in in the file ( I forget what the plug-in was for) it was suppose to make something work.  I am not a computer or electronic wiz, not even close so I need things explained to me in a very basic way.

Thanks exweedfarmer for helping me out!!!  :handshake:
