I have a question.

For the average user, what's the best way to do this, now that the Creative Labs Soundblaster MP3+ Device is nowhere to be seen.

In the past at Fry's Electronics I've gotten a generic USB to RCA type of connection...

I also have a great $99 mixer from Numark that has USB connections... works flawlessly.

But my research is hitting a bit of a dead end. Other than the Delta 44 cards, what other options are there?

I have an m-audio fasttrack the sound is outstanding
it has its own set of little idiocyn... problems (I did used to be able to spell) but the probs are on the recording side of things...for reproduction of sound I couldnt ask for better.
its not that expensive even by NZ standards (here I think was just under $200 so that means will be well under $100 in US)
its connected via usb and has an xlr connector for mic in
the things I dont like about it are the fact that it only records mono and I cant seem to get the line in/instrument jack to work adequately
But like I said for sound reproduction it blows my soundblaster external out of the water
