Hi guys!! My mom wants me to enter a contest back home. They have odd rules though. You must bring your own music without any vocals on it at all, not even backup vocals. Plus they must be copy right proven. Of course all I have is CDGs with backups on the tracks. Where can I find what I am looking for? Thanks |

Not sure what genre you are attempting to do. But I can definitely suggest Music Minus One and/or Cantalopera (for classical). Or Pocket Songs (MMO's sister company), for popular. Hal Leonard also has accompanying discs; although I'm not sure how extensive there repertoir is for what you are looking for. Hope this helps--- and good luck!!! |

Think of Piano bar, Female Soloist and Piano style vocals Babs, that style is solo ballad and fits the description of what this gig is looking for ! Mack the Knife, Summertime, My Funny Valentine, Bossa styles such as the "Look of Love", Girl From Ipanema etc. (easy listening- bar room style) Sounds as if they want ballad style solo vocals without any harmonies in the arrangments. Does the original version of Bothsides now have any harmony parts ? or is it all a single female vocalist in the arrangement ? How about Jazz Standard ballads such as Stormy Weather or Cry me a River ? A lot of the "Candlelight Cocktail" piano accompaniment *easy listening* genre songs fit that bill.. Does the DJ Sammy Do rendition of "Heaven" break into harmonies or is it all solo ? I think that's along the lines of what this contest is asking for... Female SOLO songs, without harmony. Depending on version, Fever Here are some others. This type Standard is great for Female Soloists. Lord knows, I was the backing before Karaoke existed... http://www.jazzbacks.com/cgi-bin/online ... ale-vocals |

No Kappy - It is a country song competition. Of all things. I am more the rock chick. I'm just doing it for my mom or I would never consider it. |

Hi Babs...when is this competition? I've got Sara Evans' No Place This Far and Mindy McCready's Maybe He'll Notice Her Now, Reba's Whoever's in New England, Reba's And Still, The Judds' Mama He's Crazy, all of which are without background vocals. You are welcome to any and all of them if you want them. Just send me a pm if there's anything I can do to help - Tonya |

You are such a sweet heart - thank you. I have managed to get myself out of this contest. It appears I'll be on vacation for one of the contest dates. I promised my mom I would enter the next one before the end of the year. It will be a rock contest. I am so relieved. I'm going to check into the songs you mentioned though. It couldn't hurt for me to get more familiar with country. |
