I had a similiar problem a few years ago - ALL of a sudden one side of my set up just goes silent ? Same thing - boosted the volume and all of a sudden when the bass kicked in --started working again...on and off all night like that.........
In my case IT WASN'T THE POWER AMP BUT LOOSE CONNECTIONS IN MY SPEAKER
Just a thought ?

Most likely a loose connection somewhere. Check your speaker cables for shorts, the internal speaker wiring for shorts. Next time it happens, change the speaker channels at the back of the amp, if the problem changes speakers, it's in the wire or speaker, if it stays on the same channel, loose connection is in the amp.
