Post subject:  Need to decide new Wireless Mic, Helps
I try to buy new wireless microphone for home Karaoke. I take alook at a few model in Vocopro likes: UHF -  6800, UHF- 3800, and UHF - 388K. Can someone give me good advice which one is the best, better or good. Thank you

For home use, I would go with the Sennheiser FreePort, which is selling for $150 in the US right now. It has excellent quality, and it's only real downside is the plastic case which means it is probably not durable enough for public use with drunken people.

Just this past weekend I used my "dual vhf wireless" set up.  A few of the regular singers were so pleased with the SOUND and the FREEDOM that they mentioned it to me everytime I called them up to sing.....BELIEVE IT OR NOT....I agree they sounded very good this night.  The system .........A GEM-SOUND dual system I paid $49 for .... I kid you NOT ...They are now going for $39

Sure the mics are plastic
Sure its only VHF and wouldn't work with a lot of interferance
Sure they start to cut out at distances of over 100ft
but for home use and MOST situations the best $49 I ever spent.
Of course they are not a $600 SM58 wireless set up --- But sometimes you don't need to spend $600.  Normally I use WIRED and bought these mostly for EMCEE at some DJ gigs ....But that night ...They sounded like a $600 mic   lol

Have to agree with Mcky on this one.  My girlfriend's ex husband was in a band and they used sennheiser microphones exclusively.

I just bought that $150 mic...here in nz it was $520...considering our $1 is worth over 70c us the numbers do not add up do they!!
I hate the plastic housing. it is very very cheap and noisy (no bracelets for me anymore) and its easily cracked. The hotel has 4 of them and some idiot tried to "unscrew it" to replace a battery and succeeded in cracking the collar.

Doesn't sound like home use to me.

I wouldn't buy the Freeport for  heavy-duty use. There I would go with something like the Shure -- it will endure.

I dunno, I got the chance to try mine out on Friday and it sounded great.  Granted I wasn't dealing with drunks at the gig.

the NZ Army band bought shures and they are not happy with them...aside from the plastic housing of mine I am very happy with the sound and the sensitivity. The shures you have to be hard on the mic, the sennheiser is far more sensitive and the battery lasts a lot longer in the sennheiser than in the shure. I will live with the plastic housing because I will be the only one using except maybe for handing it to an MC at a wedding. I did a total of 8 hours on a battery on sunday and it was still going strong. The shures they replace far more frequently...even my husband is impressed and he hates cordless

Hey there...I love Sennheiser's Freeport but as stated previously, plastic housing isn't the best to use when other people are using your mics. Shure makes quite durable handheld mics but they can be a bit pricey. For a karaoke bar type set up though, if you don't mind changing batteries once a night I'd suggest Nady's Encore II. Nady Encore II  is a VHF mic so the chances of dropouts would be the same as Sennheisers. Now, if you want superior sound with virtually NO dropouts go for a UHF mic, they are a little pricey but I think there are a few that are reasonably priced, including a couple made my Nady. I grew up using Nady wireless mics and stand by their quality for the cost. Shure is my fav in terms of durability and Sennheiser is my fav in terms of sound quality. Avoid GEM, VocoPro, Gemini and Hisonics. GEM & Hisonics are always on eBay and you never know if you're getting an FM or VHF mic until you get them, and they look like the first wireless mics that were ever produced in the late 70s. I'd avoid those Vocopro mics like the plague, they are hungry for batteries and you'd have to change them a few times a night as well as they don't have the best sound, many mics marketed directly for karaoke use seem to never be very good and expensive for what you get. Gemini makes a decent mic but they are WAY overpriced for the same quality you'd find in a $59-$99 Nady wireless mic. I hope this helps a little.
