Dont know why but it seems we have led in karaoke trends. The bottom feeders here are tired of setting up for nothing And they are quitting..When you dont charge you cant buy new music. And the bars are realizing you get what you pay for. you can bring in a cheap band or you can pay the price and SRO... So the savvy bar owners are looking and hiring real karaoke hosts as in another thread i was surprised in a new gig to have 25 singers all nite. We have never had a problem here with people with illegal music we have been one of the few with computer karaoke. If they buy a hard drive with 40 million songs they still have to keep current.. Forget about the legal BS and do a show...Do it and when it is all said and done the best will prevail.... :dancin: The best will make the money Dont give me this negative BS Go out and compete... |

Yup, it's happening here too. Not only are they quitting, but the venue owners are beginning to realize that they get what they pay for. What's gonna happen now is that only the better shows will survive, people we see them, and karaoke will see another upswing ing popularity. I've been through this cycle a bunch of times..... |

![]() Yep, that's how I got my current gig. I heard through the grapevine that one of the local establishments were looking for a new KJ host. I dropped in around 1pm on a Monday, and started that Friday. Been there 4 weeks now and the owner already told me he's been getting nothing but compliments. He told me the last KJ he had kept showing up late, and then wanted to quit around 11-11:30. He said he thought he was getting a deal. Now he says he's willing to "up the ante" if business continues as it has. So...he's happy,....customers are happy...so..I'm happy. When the guy told me his "horror story" concerning the other KJ, I knocked a few bucks off my usual price, and I told him so from the get-go. I explained that if I couldn't get a "regular crowd" within 8-10 weeks, then feel free to replace me. He told me he appreciated my honesty, and with a handshake, booked me for 10 weeks minimum. Now this guy is so happy, he's already talking about tossing me an extra chunk, based on the compliments and the increase in business. I REALLY like this crowd too...older...like me. AHHHH....It's a wonderful life!!! Donny "B" ![]() |

Many clubs here are starting to do dj work again - one club in particular I sold my mobile system to, used to run karaoke 6 nights a week, fired their 'good' host for someone that took less money, that host didn't know how to run karaoke, now does dj 6 nights a week - actually been helping us out a bit as well as the singers are looking for the karaoke only venues. |

There are folks who are into karaoke, and those who aren’t. I tried to make one gig into a karaoke show, but the bar had a somewhat established crowd, and when someone would sing karaoke, they didn’t seem to enjoy it. Most were around the bar and didn’t even know that someone was singing. One time a guy sang a song (not too well), and the bar owner was complaining like, “What the hell is Mark playing over there?!” thinking it was just a poorly-done recording. But, good for you that you didn’t have the karaoke competition from them. Added: Plus, sometimes folks really just wanna dance, and want a lot of dance music, and karaoke tends to less fast-dancing music than what the DJ would play to keep the dance floor going. |

So glad to hear things are turning around in your area! I have wondered if things would eventually, in those areas where you are having troubles with "wanna Be's" Although I haven't had that problem here yet it's nice to know if it does it could turn around!! |

Could depend on the club & crowds, last night our floor was packed & people (as a rule) try to pick danceable upbeat tunes to sing once they see that trend going. Yeah it still gets broken up with something not danceable (though some still try). Friday night there were alot of dancers, but everyone was dancing only to the classic rock & 80's metal - nothing new, odd night. |

That’s one reason I don’t care to sing in a bar. If I sing what I want, I’ll bore the hell outta everybody. ![]() |

![]() Doesn't matter, that's what karaoke is all about in the first place. But we often have a not so typical crowd that try to sing to the party atmosphere - people changing out songs all the time to 'fit the mood'. I still encourage everyone to sing what you want first & foremost - that's what it is about! |
