I need your opinion on this PA System for small venues and home use. It is very portable and has good reviews. Anyone use this system. Thanks. |

As always, you get what you pay for. For home use, it should be OK, but not great. It is certainly not suitable for any small gig unless it is smaller than your living room!! At $250, you are talking a bare minimum as far as PA equipment goes. Small, cheap horn for highs, small (6 1/2") woofers for lows. 100 watts (it doesn't specify if this is total or per side, but I suspect it is total, meaning 50 watts per side) probably isn't even half as much power as your typical factory car stereo. This system isn't going to produce much bass at all and isn't going to produce highs and mids very well at higher volumes. Kustom as a brand is known as being one of the bottom rung discount brands. Kinda like buying a Fundai TV at your local store. You just can't expect it to give you the quality of a Sony!! To be fair, Kustom actually makes some DECENT installation speakers that you'll find in many many bars around the country (though not in clubs...they aren't THAT good). Anyway, that's just about what you are getting with this one, a small budget system that'll be fine to mess around with a few of your friends in the living room at nominal volumes but shouldn't be expected to perform much more than that. If you'd like some suggestions on systems that would be suitable for small venues, let us know, but you honestly are not going to be able to KJ in any venues, no matter how small, without investing about $1000-2000 (for a passable system, still nothing great!!). You are talking about at least around $3000 to get into what most would call a DECENT PA for small to medium venues. The systems at your local karaoke bar where you walk in and actually notice that it sounds really good are typically $5000-$10000 systems. Of course, if you have aspirations of actually being a karaoke Dj with a steady gig, then this is a small price to pay. I personally have about $13000 invested in my system and about another $10000 invested in my CDGs. I have had a steady gig for three years now, two nights a week, 11 hours a week, at $175 a night. When you make about $20,000 a year, a $10,000 or so startup cost and $3,000-4,000 a year operating expense makes very good and practical business sense!! I'm not trying to discourage you, just want you to know that you just can't expect to get work in even the smallest of venues with a $250.00 system, so if that is your intention, then aim for some quality equipment instead and the initial investment will pay for itself if you are good at the job!! |

With that system, you’ll be wanting to upgrade pretty-soon, especially if you want to take it out. If you can scrape up about $1,000, you can get a decent system to start out with. What’s the maximum you’d consider spending at this point? |

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I guess right now I am looking to spend $500 at max. I do not plan on doing this professionaly, just at home, for friends partys, and at our campouts. Thanks again. |

I guess I should add I have a Vocopro Gig-Man Plus, that I want to sound better. I did'nt know if just adding speakers would help, thats why I was looking at an Amp with speakers. Also I am not against getting a stand alone cd-g player if I go the amp and speakers route. Thanks for your help. |
