I have got to go see an ENT doctor next week & was wondering if having your tonsils taken out changes anything about your vocals. I hope someone knows. Thanks |

Your voice will change but not drastically. Probably for the better since it must be a chronic problem for them to take them out! I have my tonsils still, but pretty much your whole body is your instrument as a singer. |

I looked into this at the same time I investigated my problems with sinus infections, since I also have had pretty frequent tonsillitis. They will tell you it definitely has the potential to change the voice -- for better or for worse. And almost for certain it will change the way you sense resonance; like it did when I got my septoplasty. But I would be surprised if they suggested you get your tonsils out -- it is rarely done with adults unless you have multiple bouts with tonsilitis a year, and even then they think about it. Somtimes if there is sleep apnea, they will go ahead. I hear it is very painful, and that there is risk of bleeding problems. |

I had sleep apnea, and had more operations than you can shake a stick at, including shrinking my tongue (electrocuting it causing it to coagulate and shrink, same up my nose), scraping my throat, taking out tonsils and uvula… Anyways, I nor anyone else noticed any difference as far as sound of my voice, or any other characteristics. My bet is that you’ll suffer no ill effects. Oh, and good luck to ya. |

Thats whats going on with me sinus infections that cause my sinuses to drain down my throat & therefore causing my tonsils to get infected its a vicious cycle that is becoming a huge problem..I dont know if the doc will tell me that he wants the tonsils out Im just thinking of all the possibilities here..all I know is Im ready to cut these sinuses out myself sometimes. Antibiotics work but right after I get off of them I get another sinus infection.. I hear Florida is really bad for sinus probs. |

I am sure the ENT will look at your nose and sinuses -- my problem was a deviated septum, which was causing the sinus infections. Haven't had a sinus infection since I had surgery to correct that, though it has only been a couple of months. If you are having frequent sinus infections, you should try nasal irrigation (check the blocked nose thread). Talk to your ENT about that. If I had not been able to have surgery, I think that would have helped a lot. |
