After putting together several DAWS and karaoke hosting systems we put together an Acer slim tower within windows vista and are now confronting the problems of the OS

Let me tell you what it sucks....I need some feedback about problems you are experiencing with Vista in concern with karaoke software or media  pm or post here what you are expeeriencing...

I haven't switched over to Vista (hate new OS's until they are worked out) so can't really comment on personal experience, but have heard through others that they are exhibiting several problems with programs.  People running programs that would normally store files within it's own file are the biggest complaints as Vista supposedly assigns an entirely new folder/location & the programs can't find what they are looking for.

INMHO Vista is crapware.  Nothing worse since Bill threw WinME over the fence to the sheeple.

I deal with Vista about every day, and it casues way more problems than it fixed.

I was thinking about getting another lappy from Dell, but unless I can get XP on it or no OS, I will look elsewhere.  I will not submit to Vista.

I am in complete agreement with you. However, just like with windows  ( a technically inferior system to just about all others), we WILL end up taking whatever is shoved down our throats by those who control the software/hardware interfaces.  If it weren't for communications protocols, I would would be running either mouse driven menus in DOS or Linux.

Remember Y2K?   The only software that would have been affected:  Windows.

At one time Windows and DOS could be run together.  Now they can't- I lost use of some terrific programs.

I'm sure you realize doesn't really erase anything from your hard drive-just scatters it.  But did you know that there are a whole slew of DOS commands that still work on a computer running XP?  Like ERASE?  Many people don't, and no DOS tutorial comes with a new computer, even though it would be a great help. Wonder why?

Sorry for the rant, but I too am tired of sheeple who have allowed all types of markets to be flooded by crap from the semi-monopolies.

The things I could tell you about cell phones..........

Actually it is a business computer with quickbooks and various florist software to go on it.  Lexmark has to send her a cd with new drivers They have dsl at the shop but at home she tried people isp which didnt work.. She is sort of ticked off she really hadnt learned XP yet LOL

Half my life if somebody wanted their tv fixed the Broncos were coming on or if they have a computer problem its tax time... Love it....

Nah if I go back to full time gigs Ill use linux.. Audio is better with any sound engine. And it doesnt use up resources like windows Other than a few little bugs I have roxbox fully functional on a nix box. This is a 3.2 gig 1 meg cache 800 frontside bus. It is quick when you click on a karaoke song the graphics are there in 450 microseconds...

More an more  pros are switching to nix  for daws. I have a kid who wants to take my system out and work it Im debating whether to start him off with XP and shift him over to nix (it is dual boot) or show him how to use nix Actually he woudnt notice the difference but Ive used windows for so damn long I dont know about hitting him with another os....

I agree.  I'm about to jump ship to Linux too.  I haven't even had a good look at Vista yet and I don't think I want to.  I thought XP was bloated so what sort of a whale is Vista?

I'm still on 2000 Pro (and that was in 2003 as WIndows 98 was stable as hell - but needed to as a crucial program we were using at the time wouldn't run correctly on 98 ), was never a need to go to XP & doubt i'll ever move to Vista.  May move to XP someday, but still is no real need - until programs start requiring a certain OS, i'll stick with what I know works.

I still have 3 machines that I use regularly with 98 on them.  If the other 3 could be switched to 98 Iwould do it in a heartbeat.  But, like lon, there are a few programs that only will run on XP.

And whatever happened to BeOS?  I played around with it for a bit, but now it has gone to he wayside.
