Howdy folks, long time no see. I've been peeking in from time to time to see how things are going. But let me catch everyone up on what's been happening in my crazy world. As some of you know, a while back I took a job at the largest marina in my area. What started out as a Karaoke job, turned into an asst. bar manager position with a work schedule of about 50 to 60 hours a week. The bar took off like a rocket, crowds were good, money was good, seemed like the perfect situation. Then greed took over. I come in on a Monday, to find that the current owner was no where to be found and his father was taking over. His father by the way had been recently fired from another marina for failing to pay his staff and writing numerous bad checks. So now this genius wants to run the restaurant and the bar, with his own staff. I had told his son in a previous conversation that under no certain terms would I work for his father. So now here was his father with the son no where to be found. I was never told the full story of what went on. I was told that the bar would now be run by the new staff and I could stay on and do the Karaoke if I wanted. Okay, here's my stance on things. I took a bar from nothing and made something out of it and now it's going to be pulled out from under me. The people came because of my service and dedication to the bar. 90% of the customers were friends of mine from previous shows and marinas I followed my gut feeling, packed my stuff and walked out the door. Now I've always been of the mind that a single person doesn't make or break a bar, but within a week of my departure, the word had gotten around, and the people stopped going to that bar. But the story doesn't end there. Things have now come full circle. I'm now back at the Marina where I first started doing Karaoke. It's under new ownership and the first thing that customers wanted to know was whether I was coming back. I now work Fridays and Saturdays, making as much money in two days as I was making all week at the previous place. All of my old singers are starting to come back, and it's as though the place never shut down. Basically I'm back home. I've started booking private parties again and already have several great paying jobs lined up. Lesson learned: I'm sad that the bar didn't work out, because I took great pride in my accomplishment, but bigger isn't always better. Thankfully things have a way of working themselves out. One door closes another one opens. Anyway that's where things stand at this point. I'm just gonna kick back, enjoy the shows and spend some time enjoying the summer this year and not work my arse off like I did last year. Well that's it. Like I said, I just thought I'd bring folks up to speed as to what's been going on in my absence. Take care, hope things are going well for everyone. Respectfully yours, James the Lion Hearted Maninblack White Trash Philosopher Humble Karaoke Host |

Get em James!!! It's nice to hear a success story..Even the change of the bar tender can have an effect. That is why there should be a mutual understanding between all involved about what the goals are and what is expected of everybody.. I have seen a few new mngrs take over a successful operation and soon ruin it. Its like somebody buying a bar then running it down and the original owner gets it back because they couldnt make payments.. |

Quote: White Trash Philosopher Nah James, You've got an excellent head on your shoulders.. We armschair philosophers aren't "trash". We haven't been dead long enough to get quoted yet, that's all ! Actually that's not quite true. I think Texas Gigi has a quote of my Philosophy someplace. (I couldn't resist looking it up) Quote: "I disagree with what you say but I will defend until death your right to say it." --Voltaire
"Voltaire's dead now and can't defend your disagreeing butt when what I say is right'." --Kappy :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: |

Speaking of "stuff". Don't forget, the price of stamps increase the 14th of this month. So you might want to wait ten days until buying more stamps so you don't have to run out and get all those 1 cent stamps in a few weeks |
