Karaoke Scene's Karaoke Forums :: Will you convert???

It looks as though the folks who invented MP3 are becoming upset with people using their encoding scheme without paying them for a license. This being the case, would you convert away from MP3 to one of the other compression formats?

Would not the WAV+G give a much better sound quality over a PA system than any compressed format? Or is the difference negligible/acceptable for this purpose?

I have been creating/using mp3 files using s/w and players that are included in the 'licenced' list, so I don't fell I have any need to change to another format, but would be interested in others' views about the sound quality issues of compressed formats.

I strongly suspect that a KMA file is just an encrypted WMA file. Maybe Karaoketools from MTU can shed some more light on that?

i cant affort to buy hoster its too much money.... but i have a few thousand songs of kma what should i do =(

Give it a few more years; PC or laptop HDD will be so huge that mp3 is irrelevant. For mobile audio devices with limited HD space mp3 may still be the way but there is .wma

I have not reaserched this but from what I have heard the license is $10,000 bucks or commercial application. That would buy a lot of hard drives.

ClubDJ Pro 2 plays the following karaoke formats: Karaoke Formats: MP3+G, WMA+G, OGG+G, WAV+G, MP4+G, AAC+G, M4A+G, and also supports zipped karaoke formats! I don't know if it is the software she uses.... Tig

The other program I looked at before Hoster allowed use of wav+g & almost considered it, but the files would have been much larger & would have required almost 3 x the size hard drive.

Of course the wav file is going to give the absolute best sound closest or equal to the cd itself. As far as compressed files, it completely depends on the rate at which they are all ripped. The lower the bitrate, the worse the sound.

I have found the Hoster kma. file to be better (to the ear) than any mp3. And they are smaller than the mp3's. Kelly

ONLY MTU products can create KMA files - either Hoster or Microstudio & only these 2 products can play them back!
