I have a pair of peavey sp2, one of the horns has stopped working. Is there a way to test for problem...can I order parts directly from peavey ? or must I go through a store... sp2 not in warranty...... would I have to replace the entire horn or is there a field fix... thanks

Nice thing about Peavey is they have field replaceable diaphragms for the hors & baskets for the woofers.

This will work fine as a direct replacement.  Just be careful installing & follow the instructions.

Yup you can put a digital  ohm meter across the horn coil.. It will be about 8 ohms..
The reason I say digital is it uses less than .6 volts unless you have it in the diode mode.. We used to check the phase on speakers with an ohm meter > see which way the diaphragm moved..  It shouldnt hurt new horns with an old ohm meter but Id rather not.. This is out of a JBL The coil wire is a very small guage This one didnt show any visual signs of being bad but it ohmed infinity.. Open...

Generally when a horn stops working - it's the horn.  Rarely it's because of the crossover blowing - which does happen on occasion.

This may be dumb but.....

I was using a pair of SP2's that weren't mine once.  I had a problem with the horn not working on one of them.  I was in an odball situation where one of the cables I was using had a speakon connector on the end that went into the speaker (other cable was 1/4").  Turns out that the on the SP2 if you plug into the speakon connectors, you are biamping, and I just happened to connect to the woofer.  

Again, I know it's kinda dumb and not likely your problem, but I just thought I would throw it out there.  

Good theory, however he said 1 stopped working - which would indicate that it was working with the way he was connecting it.  Which leads to believe he blew most likely the driver - although possibly the crossover (but unlikely).
