http://bored.com/musictests/pitchdeaf.htm My husband couldn't even SCORE... it kept saying "It seems you had some difficulty with this test, or your pitch preception ablilities are outside the range of this test"... . How do YOU all do? (And.. the AVERAGE is 5 Hz?! Me thinkith my husband didn't even LISTEN to it.... or try... or maybe he misunderstood the instructions? Either way.. i am worried:) This one's Justin's This one is mine. (Wait.. is 97 percentile good? or... bad? Did I do BETTER than 97 %? Or worse? Golly, I am stupid....) |

I did it. I was NOT, however, happy with my results. It said 85th %.... something like 1.2 hz, or something like that. I tried and TRIED to copy and paste it here, but I couldn't..... how'd you get it copied? I aint doing it again. That beep ___beep ...... beep ___beep ....... beep ___beep crum was driving me insane. Hmmm... only 85%, could be that's why Charm misses so many notes, eh? haha.... I'd have my hubby do it next time he's here, but I imagine he'd say "Uhhhhh-I-uh-no, they all sound the same to me", and yank the headphones off. LOL I tried the other two tests there also, kinda fun. (the pitch and rythm ones) "bored.com".... sounds like I may have found a website made for people like me:) . |

Babe, I took a cropped screen shot. I dunno how you do that in windows.. but, for me, it is just a key combo, and I can highlight the area to be "snapped"... and the picture just goes on my desktop:) Milo--- Lol.. yeah.. SMART... , Ya know.. the test kinda reminds me of the hearing tests you take when you are little. I used to have to take them a lot, because I have hearing loss. BUT, it is nice to know that my hearing problems don't affect my sense of pitch:) Odie.. you did really well... ESPECIALLY if you consider the fact that my husband couldn't get it to do ANYTHING... I have NO idea HOW he accomplished that.. but then, Man, you should hear him sing! Lol, he makes the worst on AI look TERRIFIC:) |

Gilly....... if you read this today...... Recall that Irish bar room song you and Justy did a long time ago? I believe it was a'capella? (maybe not Irish, but it sounded like it..) If you still have that, you should sub it, since it's almost St. Patty's day. That was such an awesome listen. I'd love to hear it again, if you have it saved. . |

Omg. I FORGOT about it:) I's the B'y is a traditional Newfoundland tune:) (I's the b'y, meaning.. "I am the boy":).. BUT, kinda irish. I mean, Newfoundland is steeped in "Irishness":) (English, Irish and French:) And that song? , looooong gone! Justy went through EVERYTHING and DELETED it! Even after ALLllll that time I spent hacking together a backing... Lol, now, if ANYONE ELSE has it... SEnd it to me!:) I would LOVE to embarrass him with it!!!:) That was fun, aye?:) I can't believe you REMEMBERED that! If you like that sort of "newfie" music, I recommend Great Big Sea, or Irish Descendants, and my fave, Rawlins Cross...and onto Cape Breton (NS:), My daughter is IN LOVE with The Rankin Family, and The Barra MacNeils, And Absolutely LOVES Natalie MacMaster (Cape Breton fiddle music style). And likes SOME Ashley MacIsaac.. Ok, enough of my babbling, but we have some GREAT music back home!:) Hmm, and onto the province I live NOW, I LOVE Mes Aïeux (which translates as.. "my ancestors) Really neat French-Canadian folk music group:) Great music. |

Yanno what? I used to save ALOT of songs from SS. I have, however, crashed & burned two hard drives in the last coupla years.... so, if I did save that one, it may have been lost, or- I could have it on cd. I did copy and burn some of them, but then I held most of them in a desktop folder. You'd think I'd learn to put everything on disk or cd, but nooooo...... That's the one, you saying the name now, I do recall it being "I's the B'y" .... I can't believe you let him get away with deleting that, ya should have saved it somewhere. It's a long shot, but I'll see if I happened to have saved it. I'd LOVE to hear it again. If not, you could always sing it again yourself, if Justy wont join in:) Or, promise him something extra special (with cherries on top? whatever) .... .... Maybe he'll go ahead and resing it, and it'll be a win-win situation for you. haha Lots of new people here though, it would be cool if you could share it again. . |

Lol, he will NEVER sing that again!:) MAybe on his death bed:) (And, he can't possibly sound WORSE, anyways;) I am having the WORST freaking week. My car breaks down, Sky was really sick all week, and then, RIGHT after I get over pneumonia, I catch HER flu. Then, yesterday, my one year old fridge breaks down.... get this... 6 days over the darn warranty date... I swear, they have it planned to die RIGHT after that darn date. SO, All of my food is warm, (And, we don't have a "freezer", just the one in the fridge"... so, I had to go bury all of my stuff outside... (good thing it is -25 today:) Then, to have it repaired will cost WAY too much.... so, we head out to futureshop and find a cheaper fridge that will cost about the price of having the BROKEN one repaired.. BUT, they can't deliver it for 10 days! AHHhhhh!! Kill me. Please.... Ok, I am ranting, but holy gawd, this week absolutely SUCKS. |

It's at times like this that you WISH you had bought that extended warranty the salesman tried to talk you into when you bought the danged thing! 1 year is way too early for a fridge the breakdown though. I remember Futureshops! They had a few stores in Oregon several years ago then they gave up and Best Buy bought them out. I haven't been sick lately, but I still can't find a full time job, I just found out I owe about $700 in taxes and I got called up for jury duty! Trust me, in my current state of mind, no lawyer would want me on a jury for their case! |

Post subject: | Re: Thought this was neat.... |
I know! And the funny thing is... we totally didn't want the extended warranty, because we bought a washer/dryer, and fridge and stove ALL at the same time.. it would have cost a fortune.... (And, I HATE futureshop.. they are the BIGGEST pain to deal with!!! We lucked out yesterday though, and got this REALLY nice girl, who REALLY tried to use her limited english with us:) However, The DRYER broke last summer, and now the FRIDGE is broken!:) Luckily, the dryer was replaced.... but, we JUST bought a new Fridge, and the WORST thing, is that we had JUST bought a crap load of groceries the day before this fridge broke.. and it is all Warm, and icky... (and smelly:) we aren't POOR, but this kinda stuff just isn't in our tight budget... I guess this crap happens to everyone:) Sadly, I need a fridge, MORE than i need to fix the car.. and I hate choosing! Ok, I feel better after ranting!:) (And, this is the FIRST year EVER we have been in a bracket where we have had to pay IN for taxes. Usually we get a couple thosand dollars BACK.... ) And, speaking of jobs... I CAN"T work here. Because this community is 100 % French.. there is NO need for an anglophone to work anywhere... Why would anyone hire me, when I can't talk to them!:) So, no jobs here. Heck, I can't even go back to school, because the colleges/universities, are all French. However, I AM in French classes:) G'bye:) |

Ah, sorry to hear all your crap that's going on Gilly. Been there done that. Very recently, my Bronco carburetor started giving me hell, so I was borrowing my hubby's truck... then my son threw a rod in his pickup, so HE had to borrow my hubby's truck... then my hubby's truck's alternator went out. So, we were kinda like that saying "up shyt creek without a paddle"... and all within one week. Just... look for the silver lining... atleast you DO live where it's cold. Didn't have time to dig through cd's yet... I'll try to do that when I get home from work:) . |

The fridge was a Haier, (But, we JUST bought a Frigidaire)... and I can't remember what the dryer was... but, i think it was also a frigidaire.. (do they make dryers?!) Lol Charmin---- YEs, I suppose living where it is cold helps, when you lose your fridge!!! But, then... NOT so good when the parts of your car that are BROKEN are the parts that keep it warm in the winter;) Lol. I hate unexpected expenses... but then, I guess that's life!:) I just really need to fix the car soon, because Justy is off for training AGAIN, and is heading to Alberta for 4-5 months..... leaving me stuck in French land with a broken voiture:) |

I tried all three tests, the pitch, rhythm and tone. I did best on the pitch test: 74th percentile. I was below average on the other two: 44th percentile for rhythm and I think 35th percentile for tone. Those are within the normal range, but I'm still disappointed with the last figure. The ones that surprise me are the ones where I think two things sound different when they're actually the same; apparently sometimes I hear differences that don't exist. If they were different but I thought they sounded the same, that would bother me less somehow. |

I should have my sister try this. She has absolute perfect pitch. She should get everything right. I was always jealous about her abilities. She hears things no one else can hear. |

87% on the pitch 89% on the rhythm 87% on tone Didn't have any headphones hooked up & going through desktop speakers. I would like to try again when I get my headphones hooked up. |

This is a trick.. Everyone with capacity to differentiate pitch, and a discerning ear knows ALL those tones were the exact same pitch  Eben, I'm wondering if perfect pitch or developed relative pitch is more important to test well here. An interesting aspect might be that at A-440 a person with perfect pitch would do extremely well. BUT, this pitch I believe is B. Ability to discern interval difference up or down at other pitches I believe is a sensitivity for relative pitch. I haven't followed perfect pitch studies in a long time however. |

0.675 Hz 97% Concentration is tough on this however, and I had to use headphones relying HEAVILY on my right ear. My left ear is obviously blown. Another interesting point is that as we age, this gets tougher. It was harder than I anticipated it to be. When it got down to 1.5 Hz I had to listen to tones often more than once. Did any of you score well listening to the pitches only one time each ? Honestly now. Also did you use headphones ? Alot of background noise and humming frequencies made it tough without headphones.. Competing with barking dogs, yadda yadda blah blah. Lower speaker volume made it easier for me too I'd be quite interested to know how many people were able to actually score above around this percentile. I seriously doubt it's too likely ANYONE scored better than ALL others given this sample group and 100% honestly. What is the likelihood given limits of human capacity to differentiate ? Of course excellent relative pitch and two very lucky guesses might come close HEHEHE... They keep results anonymous, but if you could view the thousands that took this test, it'd likely read something like this.. Fred Fred Fred Fred Gilly Fred Fred Fred Milo Lonman Fred Hank Hank Hank Hank Hank Ralph Kappy Kappy's mom Kappy's mom Kappy's mom and a computerized tuning device Milo Tom etc etc Bluestained |

Of course excellent relative pitch and two very lucky guesses might come close I clicked my first instinct. And asking justy now, he says I listened to maybe two tones more than once. I used ear bud headphones, in only one ear. I ALSO did it with Sky in the room, playing with some talking dancing barbie thing. I don't think the "concentration" aspect makes much of a difference to me... I didn't THINK I did well... Lol, I didn't quite understand the "percentile" thing... Lol, always throws me..> I guess THAT is telling of my intelligience, eh? Like.. if Sky is in the 10 percentile for weight and height for her age.. that means 90 % of kids are bigger than her? Yes? Ok, this is rambling:) I did the test again, and still got 97%. THAT actually surprised me MORE... how the heck did I get the same ones WRONG again?! Lol, and Justin STILL couldn't get past the "you moron" screen:) I tried to have Sky do it, to see how she would do. No go. Now, concentration DOES have an impact when you are 5:) Mind you.. She also sings like Justin... so, maybe she IS simply pitch deaf like him;) I was ALSO surprised at the number of people having taken the "test"... 48, 728?! Crap, that's a lot of people. |
