Oregon and the country lost a great blues harmonica player and singer yesterday. Paul deLay died from leukemia at age 55. Paul was well known and respected in the world of blues musicians and fans. I am not familiar with Mr. DeLay's work but it got me thinking. I gotta make more effort to see some of the older bands before they go. You know what I mean? I managed to see the Eagles, the Who, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc. I regret not being old enough to see the Beatles when they were still together. Ditto for Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Harry Chapin, Jim Croce, etc. etc. This year I missed on Moody Blues in concert and I am kicking myself on that one. I know they are not that old but I am going to try getting tickets for the Police this year if I can afford them Anyone else I should see before they pass us by? |

I guess this too is a subjective call Eben. Even if I were to "go back", I personally wouldn't wish to see certain "big names" merely to say "I saw the huge act live", retrospectively. Who I saw, and will currently see is contingent on who I like (liked). I wouldn't have wanted to see "The Doors" even when they were here in New Haven. I had the chance. I have few regrets in passing them by, (yet this is just my personal feelings regarding this very issue..Granted, big names are part of Rock History, and for that reason alone, many feel differently regarding this issue). I didn't see Black Sabbath when they "were huge" in the 60's, nor would I wish to see them today (not because I dislike them by anymeans, just because I don't like them *enough* to want to see them). The Beatles, The Who, Zep, and The Stones (who I did manage to see), as well as a few other band members I knew, (a few I was with while on the road, met, jammed with, etc) However, My own feeling is -If you like most of them enough to wish to sit thru a whole concert, see as many as you can. (Personally, I will only opt to see the bands I REALLY like). "The Moody Blues" are VERY high on this list btw.. Justin Hayward is an amazing musician. They are all impressive. I'd like to see The Scorpions, and regarding blues, Gary Moore. Don't know if either performer comes to the United States. I don't believe Gary Moore does (or has). |

and he's pretty young too. Only in his mid-50's tops 
He's quite gifted too. When the Moody Blues released Search for the Lost Chord in 1972, Hayward (guitar and vocals) was only 2 1/2 years old ! In fact, not even as old as Steve Winwood when he was with Traffic. When Winwood sang on the "john Barleycorn" album he just had his 4th birthday. Now considering how many years prior to 1972 John Barleycorn was released, that's pretty young, even for the 1960's. |

She was a fabulous actress ! So good in fact, that like Carroll O'Connor she carried the stigma of that part. Since Margaret Hamilton was around 80 in 1980 around the time she died most of her acting was done before I was even born. Never really saw her in anything except one or two shows where she had walk on parts. She lived not to far here in CT. |
