I have an older cd+g player that doesn't have key changing capabilities.  I've seen some digital key chargers such as the audio 2000.  Are these any good? if they are which ones are recommended?  Budget is an issue so which one would get me the most bang for my buck.

Hi:

Usually if it's made for karaoke, you can buy pro gear that will cost less and sound better.  The exception would be karaoke players and key changers.  I personally own the AKM706 key changer and I recommend it fully.  You have to remember to reset it after making a key change as this unit will not revert back when changing songs.  In my experience, only my JVC triple cdg player would reset when the song was changed.  I have used the unit for about two years and it has been problem free.  I know that Ace Karaoke carries it for about $140.00.

Cheers

If you're doing karaoke, doesn't your mixer have keychange?

If not, you might consider a Ninja mini-board.  I've only found it on E-bay, but it's under a hundred, and has other mixing effects as well.  I actually use it as a separate mic mixer on occasion, as it's very small.

However, if neither your mixer or player are up to for karaoke usage, you may wish to make the upgrade investment.  Not only will you get all the bells and whistles, but you'll be replacing  aging equipment in the process....

Unless you buy a "karaoke" mixer (which most generally aren't worth much quality wise to begin with), the mixer wouldn't have a key changer.

I've never needed an external as my players all have one built in but have worked with an older Audio 2000 model & it seemed to do fine on a change of 1 or 2, anything more you could hear alot of digital garble.

I had considered up-grading my karaoke player, but it seems to be pretty frustrating trying to settle on one.  The general concensus is that no one is making a player that anyone really likes and everyone recommends using a computer.  I don't have a big production, mostly just private parties and plug my $40 memorex karaoke play into my PA and it works fine, but it doesn't have key changing so I was looking at alternatives.
