Hi All

This is my first post - I have a question regarding wireless microphones

I recently purchased a rather cheap wirelss microphone system for my home karaoke set up.
Whilst being happy with the sound the microphones produced there was a definite and noticable lag between the person singing and the sound being reproduced. This lag is not present when using corded microphones. We did experiment using one wireless mic and one corded and the difference between the sound being reproduced was quite obvious.

My question is - is this lag due to the fact that this is quite a cheap wireless system or is it a property that is inherent with all wireless microphones.

Would a more expensive wireless system solve this problem. Could anyone recommend such a system - Please note I am posting from London, England.

I look forward to a reply - I am keen to add a wireless system to my karaoke set up but my current set has diminished the overall experience

Russell

Tough question, Russell. I truly don't believe that being inexpensive is the problem, and am not sure what is, as I've never really noticed it.  However, one thing that comes to mind is that the wireless signal is being processed 3 times  ( converted to radio waves by the mic, processed back to electro-magnetic pulse and re-sent by the receiver, then reproduced as sound by the player).  The wired mic converts sound to electro-magnetic pulse and sent directly to the player for sound conversion. That would cause a delay, but I don't know how audible it would be.

I know this sounds simple, but did you make sure that the mic  input controls (echo/delay) were OFF for BOTH inputs during your test?

Please Note:  I wish someone could give me a definitive answer why my signature and avatar are never included on my posts. I've tried everything, including the "HELP" thread, to no avail...

Very true. There should be no latency.
Sounds like if echo control is not a factor...
Its faulty.
