If you run your show and play filler music you should be apologizing to your loyal singers.
This should be said to your first 5 early, loyal singers, every night.
It should sound something like this:
Since I run an OK show, but I do not have the talent required to run a continuos, non stop karaoke show, I will be playing filler music between singers. This filler music will take up at least a 1/2 hours worth of singing time. This means that you 5 early, loyal singers (that came early to support my show and to be able to sing more) will sing one song less, than you expected. Sorry for any inconvenience. But, it's my talent level.
Now If you play dance music too, you will have to include the next 10-15 singers and this is what you should be saying to them every night:
Since I run an OK show, but I lack the singing/general talent required to entertain all of the people in attendance with just karaoke music, I will be playing dance music on "karaoke" night to make the non singers happy. These dance sets will take up at least 1 hour of singing time. So you my 10-15 early loyal singers, can expect to sing one less song each. I know you came early to sing more, but I have to cater to the non singers too. The non singers forced me into this.
These apologies will make you look like a standup person with some integrity and by admitting your faults, they may feel compassion for you and continue to attend your show.... out of pity.

What the hell makes you think filler takes up a half hour of singing time and dance music takes up an hour?
Did you find a Hack Karaoke for Dummies book?
I don't mind it when you post drivel; I mind it when you don't read the comments made by others and respond to your own assumptions instead of their legit posts.
Nobody asked you to change your show; they just want you to understand that something different might work for them. The key word here is WORK. It could happen. DUH.
It's like talking to a brick wall, I swear. Men have been divorced or murdered for much less.

I believe that was a direct insult at me. I did a calculation figuring 20 seconds of filler between singers over the course of a night would come to 15-20 minutes in 4 hours. Someone decided to start a new thread attacking this idea.
I will stand strong to my show, and do not need to apologize for anything. In the 5 weeks I have had this new gig, I have gone from a rotation of 12-15 singers to a rotation of 27 last Friday. Guess I must be doing it all wrong, huh?
Last I checked, unless you have magic karaoke discs, there is dead air before music starts on each track. And, if you are so concerned about the sound, and are running an ever changing board (volume up and down as the singers modulate), I do not see how you can be in the crowd making sure the next singer has a mic and is ready the moment a song ends. I live in reality- not fantasy.
So please little b!tch (as the dog has a female logo assigned to it), until you see how other parts of the country do it, since all you have are hacks, shut up.
I now understand why you don't want anyone knowing where you are. If I insulted half the country, and all my employers I would be scared as well......

True discussion and sharing of information means expressing ones opinion while at the same time respecting the thoughts and actions of others.
I do not use filler music. I prefer not to.
However, I understand that some do and it works. Some "people" do not understand this and think that there is only two sides to anything. This same "person" would have you believe that there are only two sides to a coin; heads & tails. BUT, if you look close there is this edge around the side that brings them both together.
This "edge" is what SHOULD allow us to share without belittling one another. Responding to "people" who do not understand this is a waste of my time. It should be a waste of yours.

It doesn't take any more time out of a show fading up a song once a singer is done, call up the next & fade it once singer is ready. Often times I will get someone that hears a song in between & come up & ask to sing it or for the name so they can sing it.
If the previous singers song has a long outro, that is what I use for filler until the next singer gets up & ready, once up, I fade out previous song starting next song.
4 players are always cued up. The SC discs I will cue almost to the start of the music to delete the dead air - with the cue monitors at my station I can see, as soon as the page switches from the SC logo & song title to the intro page, hit pause & it is at the point of the music - although SOME of their older songs did start on the logo page. Most of the monthly discs start close to immediately.
Anyways, point is, there are no apologies necessary. I'm not robbing anyone of anything. But then again, i'll play a game every once in while - remember i'm the reason karaoke is dying over here  . Only had 45 singers Fri & 38 on Sat (was a slow weekend).

Hey Lon is it still pretty smokey in the T-Bird or did the smoking ban include T-Bird or did they install some smoke-eaters.???

Yeah, you could also serve up some scrambled eggs and ham (green eggs if you like), or possibly take a day trip to the casino and win some big bucks! Anyone know what the weather forcast for Hawaii is for the next 5 days? Anyone? But on a serious note, you realy must beware of them, they can attack at any time!
It's all up to you and what you want to do!

No the smoking ban doesn't affect us. They did add a couple more smoke eaters though - still can get pretty smoky though. ALmost wish they would drop smoking, I think it's actually hurting!

It would be a waste of time Bigdog....Not only is the apology not good enough, But I would not ever go back to there sorry show even if they PAID ME!!!! LMAO
IT IS A WASTE OF MY MONEY!!!!! AND TIME!!!!!
AND TO BE PAID TO PUT UP WITH SUCH NONSENSE AS THEY DO....NO ONE COULD PAY ME ENOUGH TO GO THERE AND PUT UP WITH THAT CRAP!!!!!!
I will make it my life long job to try and put hacks out of business....by word of mouth and by technology.......They will loose out the same as records lost out to cassette and cassette lost out to cd & dvd.....They will loose out to systems made to get rid of hard headed people who refuse to do things right.
They will loose because bar owners will be able to have systems that can be run by employee's who will be paid little more than minimum wage!!! LMAO

and back to that smoking thing, since that is not what this thread is about.
Has anyone heard of a business getting busted for allowing smoking?
What are the penatiles for not complying to smoking bans in your locale?
What if there is a person, who just refuses to put out his/her smoke?
What can you do?
Call the cops?
Can you really be aressted for smoking?
Come on people, more inane chatter!!!!!
Perhaps some of the women could come in and start flirting!! :dancin:

I forgot about the song robbing games, that would have to be apologized for....
As a self trained Professional KJ, I can indeed by myself, queue songs with two machines, mix volumes, run microphones and run a 4 hour continuous, non stop karaoke show. Without dead air, without filler music, without dance music, without games. I can deliver a microphone to singers through a crowed bar, all night long. All this is done while "entertaining" the "entire" crowd.
Entertaining a crowd of nothing but singers would be easier than a mixed crowd. A crowd of nothing but singers tells me that the non singers are not entertained because they do not stick around. It they were, they would be there listening and dancing and having fun.
I do give lessons. We trained every employee to do exactly the same thing. When they could do all of the above, they were turned loose to do the entire job by themself. This included the set up and tear down.
So it is indeed very possible to run a professional show without all of the "garbage" distractions that so many feel is important to a DJ/KJ Game (karaoke) show.
It's not easy being me...

@ BD. I am afraid, my overstuffed canine "friend", that I would apologize profusely to my crowd if you had to run a show for me as a fill-in (hypothetically, of course. I would never ask you, and you are to self-obsessed to do something for someone else, anyways).
I am sorry that your ego is so large and your self-esteem so small that you feel the need to attack and belittle, rather than embracing the fact that there are numerous right ways to do things. I am also sorry that this self-righteous pomposity, and incessant trolling of yours hasn't gotten you banned from this forum, yet.
Have a nice day, but PLEASE, have it somewhere else.

I will apologize....
for getting drawn into BD's BS yet again. I would like to know where he plays, because obvoiusly the laws of physics do not apply there as welll as the laws of sound.....
Dreamer- you only seem to pop up when BD backs himself into a corner. I can only assume you enjoy stirring the pot as well, or are an alter ego. I fully expect to see PittsburgPat chime in here at any moment.
I welcome any and all of you to attend one of my shows and see how much of a HACK I am. Ericlater has been. I have been to Lito's show. Some of the people who found singers showcase did so through a link to here on my site.
SO, to end this foolishness, BD- enjoy your ever dwindling, ever chenging line up of idiotic bar owners and superior singers without a stage. From now on you are as dead to me as you think karaoke is because of people like me.
