I'm looking to buy a stereo passive crossover to seperate a pair of EV 18" bass bins from a pair of RCF Evente 3000 tops (15s & Horns). Any recommendations 'cos I can't make any sense out of it! |

Get an active crossover instead (A 2/3 way active stereo Behinger crossover costs $89). Then just read the owner's manuals for each of your speakers and they will tell you the recommended crossover point. If you don't have the owner's manuals, you can usually get them online from the manufacturer's Web site. |

Any recommendations 'cos I can't make any sense out of it! You aren't going to get a satisfactory result with a passive crossover for a sub/satellite division. You really need to get a 2 way active unit & a 2nd amp - 1 for the subs & 1 for the mains - to make any kind of real impact. What make/model amp are you running now? Which models EV. The little info I could find on the RCF speakers looks like that they would need a 300 watt per channel into 8 ohms amp to run them efficiently & lowest risk of blowing them - under powered amps will kill a speaker faster than an amp that pushes more. If you can't swing a 2nd amp at this time, you could run your system mono (which actually recommended in most clubs anyway) & use the one amp, 1 channel for both of the RCF & the other channel for both EV's going through an active crossover - granted this is a very temporary fix & provided the amp has enough power to push the speakers. I strongly recommend the dbx 223XL crossover for that set-up. The amp recommendation for the subs - again not knowing the model, going to assume they are going to need an amp that pushes close to 600 watts per channel into 8 ohms. |

The EVs are S181s and the amp is 500 per channel. I do have several other mixer amps but I can't get my head around doing two EQs. Not unhappy to take any help I can get! Thanks to those have answered! |
