Ok, the reason I titled this as I did, is because I just purchased a Plextor PX-760A burner, and I can't get it to read or write CD+G. I spoke with Plextor, and they told me I MUST have the current version of Goldenhawk in order for it to function properly. I have the 3.9 version. It states on the web site that ALL drivers are the same for versions 3.8 and up, so...I should be OK. NOT!!! I tried contactng Goldenhawk to find out it the drivers are different in the 4.0C version, and the phone just rings and rings and rings....then disconnects. I've emailed them 5 times and get no response. So.....has anyone had this problem with Goldenhawk as of late...AND....can someone suggest a possible solution to my "driver" problems.

                                   Donny "B"

ps: I've been trying to contact them EVERYDAY since last MONDAY!!!

Duno mate,
Plextor are normally good.
Could be you have a resourse problem.
Boot up in safe mode and check it out.

Otherwise with whats against you can you not
get the store where you purchased it to sort it out.
You know... Shame them.

the newer plextor drives have to have a higher version of CDRWIN... I had to buy 4.0b!

My experience with Goldenhawk is that their support is quite a bit less than friendly.  They have a great product, though I believe it is now a bit dated.

What is it that you are wanting to do?

Thank you for the response so far. I appreciate the time and effort MOST people freely give without hidden agendas. All I want to be able to do is continue to back up my cdg's as well as convert my laser discs to either vcd or dvd format. I still have a Plextor Premium as well as the 760A which works as it should. I thought it might be a little quicker cdg wise if I could just go disc to disc instead of putting a disc in, waiting for it to upload to the image file and then downloading it to the blank disc. Until I got the 760A, that was the only alternative available to me. Until I get some answers from Goldenhawk, I guess I'll have to continue the "old way".

I had problem with 760A with my rackmount system and I had to reinstall ASPI driver from Adaptec and it now works. The ASPI drivers are free to download from Adaptec, just go to www.adaptec.com and search for ASPI driver. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion Eben. I know about that site and their drivers, but I'm old school. Less is best in my ideology. Don'y want to get too much "stuff" stuffed into my computor unless I really have too. Still waiting for Goldenhawk to either answer the phone or email me back. Called again this A.M. and the same thing happens. That being the case, I don't want to order the updated version until I know what the story is from THEIR end. You'd think they would have told potential customers that the drivers did change when they went to the 4.0 A,B, or C versions, and updated their web site to convey that information. Nonetheless, thanks again for the suggestion.

you may want to also check on updating the firmware in your plextor drive.  When I got my plextor I had to do it to get it to read/write CDG format.

Twansenne, I'm assuming you mean the latest disc from Plextor that comes with their burners. I'm not that computer literate, but I'm not a registered idiot either. (unlike some people/person that like to imply that we all are due to not agreeing with their Bogus Directorials on how to run a successful KJ show)
I don't get out here that much, but I really appreciate when someone takes the time and makes the effort to help...that's why I keep coming back. I loaded the disc that came with the burner (760A). I talked to Plextor support, and was informed that they don't supply the drivers for the format (cdg). They said I MUST have the latest version of Goldenhawk. (4.0C) The Goldenhawk web site states that ALL versions 3.8 and higher have the same drivers. I have version 3.9F. Knightshow( thank you by the way for that info) tells me he had to buy version 4.0B. Now, if I can't get Goldenhawk to answer a phone and/or respond to emails, why should I chance just arbitrarily ordering the upgrade not knowing if they'll even send it. Would any of you do that? I'm really getting a little "miffed" (understatement) at the lack of customer support. I might just take a drive to Nashua N.H. and beat on their door (heads) and hope some one is actually there. It's only about 45 minutes from my house and if I don't get some kind of response by tomorrow, on Wednesday it's gonna be
 " DEPARTED" , the sequell :madgo: .
Well, once again, thank you to all who tried to help...really appreciate your efforts.

Firm ware updates update the "BRAINS" inside the drive.  It has nothing to do with drivers, and won't come on the disc.

Here is a link to the firmware upgrades.....
http://www.plextor.com/english/support/ ... .html#firm

But update your ASPI drivers before you do a firmware upgrade.

So do you think I should just order the upgrade from Goldenhawk, and then do the other stuff you said?

Post subject:  Re: GoldenHawk Drivers

For backing up CDG discs, I had better luck with CloneCD.  The "Multimedia" preset includes subcodes and I used it to back up over 150 discs using two Plextor drives.  Unfortunately, those backups were lost when I moved a few years ago (I am thinking they got in with the trash, somehow, along with lots of other things).  CloneCD has a simple, easy to use interface, and just plain works.  It isn't as involved to use as CDRWin, AND doesn't make you have to upgrade every time you buy a newer model of drive.

If you want to see if your drive will properly read CDG, then download the freeware  version of KaraFun at www.karafun.com and use it to test.

If it is unable to read them, you definitely need the firmware update.  After you confirm that you can read them, do a test burn with a trial copy of CloneCD (make sure to use the Multimedia preset or manually set it to copy subcodes) and then test to see if your copy works.

I agree that firmware can sometimes be the problem, but I have heard of firmware updates rendering a drive useless, too.

Yeah, if you DON'T follow the instructions, it can quickly turn anything you are updating firmware on to a boat anchor.

DONNY.....
Update ASPI ddrivers first and see if that works, then update firmware.  If that dosen't work order the new CDRWIN.

Ok, now I'm in a little predicament. HOW do you update drivers? I thought I had to get the CDRWIN update ( now 4.0D as of Jan. 25th) to update my drivers. I ordered it last night. Funny how they take your money, but won't answer a phone or respond to emails. I'll probably get the update and the unlock codes on Wednesday. If that doesn't work, THEN I'm going to N.H. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll let you know how I make out or if I'm going to jail for "stupid stuff". (hahahaha)

CDRWIN is a freeware - or at least it used to be - locked into 1 times speed.  So download the latest to test, if it works with your new drive, then buy the unlock key if so.  I had a Plextor Premium drive that wouldn't work with an older version of CDRWIN that I had, I needed to get the latest version for it to work - which at that time was 3.9H upgraded from3.9D.

Ok, here goes. I have windows xp. I have 2 plextors...the Plexwriter Premium and the PX 760A. All the units I replaced were set to "cable select" as far as the "jumper" on the back was concerned, so I set the Plextors the same way. The Plexwriter is working as it should, but the 760A won't read or write cdg's. Both units are recognized by cdrwin. I got the unlock codes today for the upgrade, and now I can't figure out how to install that. I'm really getting ticked off. Tried calling Goldenhawk and still no answer......but they took my money. So....if someone who's familiar with the system wants to email me their phone number....I'll call you tomorrow...anytime you want....and hopefully you could walk me through the process. Like I said before....I'm not that computer literate...but I'm not a registered idiot either. Just need some help. That's why I come out here. BTW, thank you all for your suggestions, and I'll understand if no one feel comfortable about the phone thing.

ps: Lonman...I presently have the 3.9F version....going for the 4.0D if I can get the dang thing downloaded.

Hello Donny,  The upgrade should already be installed the only thing you should have to do is open up CDRWin and then click on the unlock button (it should be a picture of a lock and it should be located all the way to the right). It then should ask for the code to unlock the program.
