I just got a call from a Portland number, a karaoke magazine, that's wanting to comment on a KJ's perspective of the recent activity involving SC (and Stellar)'s press release and actions...

I gave my comments (which aren't any different than I've posted on here and at JOLT and SC's forum), but did clarify that I didn't feel it was GREED, but a control issue.

Kurt, do you have anything to do with this article? Apparently, the Portland area is really getting some activity (kj's complaining, quitting, venues saying no more karaoke at ALL - even disc based). This writer, Kimberly, seemed to confirm this when I told her I had retired due to this action.

Matt I just responded to another post about the same thing so I copied it and will repost here... Im like you Ive had it other than parties and private affairs... We are going to go back to the old ways Get a bunch of beer, go out to the bunk house play guitars and sing And if anybody tries to trespass to tell us what we can sing or whatever they will be shot...

For the last year or two my new cds have come mostly from THM...

i have worked in many professions and the manus gave total tech support and provided any any assistance including seminars for they realized that if we didnt succeed then they wouldnt.. None of them used lobbyists or marketing controls or antiquted laws to make us purchase and spend thousands of dollars for things we would never use.  The main reason they are against anything other than cds is because people would only buy what worked or what they needed ,then they would have to determine what to make and let supply dictate..

In retrospect I wouldnt have persued this business and wasted good money on thousands of songs that were never even played... They are worse than all the others put together..  They along with riaa asap have almost killed a fledgling industry before it had a chance to stabalize....And its all due to greed...

I hvent really been folllowing activitea of the bars---but I do know that JD (Muzik-Mann) is down to only 3 gigs now and Unique Ent(Greg) has lost some gigs. Then of course the bars come and go weekly. Havnet seen any of the main venues changing anyuthing in that regard. Just the usual churn as places come and go. And the normal grumbling about the state of affairs.

You have to agree that every person/entity has the right to protect something they have created, from misuse, abuse and unauthorized usage.     Also their right to be compensated whenever appropriate.

You have a choice to use or not use discs from any manufacturer.

Sound Choice is not the only game in town.   If they want to ruin the karaoke business for themselves by shutting down/trying to, all KJs that use their products, switch to a different supplier.

I have Sound Choice discs that are becoming useless because of manufacturing defects or lack of quality control.    I will put them and others on a hard drive to protect my substantial investment.    Not to sell to others.

I am not in the habit of throwing away thousands of dollars without trying to protect myself somehow.   I will defend my right to do so.
