Ericlater just braught up a very good point.
Myself I use a non pro player called KaraFun.
It gives me pitch and tempo control which are my requirements.
It dives a solid display, I've noticed some players dont do that.
It also gives me a rolling picture backdrop to the lyrics
which I really like, and it looks really impressive.
What do you guys use... and why.

I use Sacks-O-Nuts mostly because I wrote it. It's also the only hosting software you can use while you're drunk. Just click the big green button that says Play and it does everything, and I do mean everything, else.

Havn't seen that one.
Recon if you put your little key click app with it,
it will add a new powerful dimension to the prog.

Also I get the impression Sacks-O-Nuts
is an inapropriate name.

Roxbox... I can use 2 winamps and configure 1 for laraoke and the other for DJ Auto fade between them.. Generate playlists for dj and shift genre or mood on a dime.. Rotation....Record.. Singer history. I hardly ever anymore but if I want to burn a cd i load tracks into the que. Click compile it puts them all into a folder ready to burn... Track encyption..
If you find a bad song or dup you can mark it It is moved into the bad folder where later you can take the approriate action.. On the singer que screen the next singer is listed.. And others...

I presently use autoKDJ and winamp. Just got through my first round of renaming my song files(8,000 songs) to work with AutoKDJ and can't wait for the rest of the songs to get renamed (approximately 14,000 songs). Right now I don't have a cdg capable drive to reimport the songs so I am having it done ny a friend.

will it play continuously Weedy? I just use the sax & dottys player when I sing but I would prefer something I dont need to continually start, that way I can interact better

He pulled sack-onuts off the market while he dabbles in building a none winamp based program which I am sure he will incorporate your suggestion. AutoKDJ www.autokdj.com will do continuously as does RoxBox www.kjamp.com when the auto play is checked. personally AutoKDJ is smoother in transition from song to song.

thanks Danny I shall look at it...does it leap the dead air at the start? or at least give that option? ![lol lol](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) here i am asking these ?s and I should just go look, I guess if its winamp based you can prog winamp to do that but its not always sucessful, it sometimes leaps the odd bar at the start

I use MTU Hoster. I prefer their proprietary format sound over the standard mp3's ripped at the same bitrate - but you can still use mp3's with it as well. It can also be set to run automatically if needed, I won't use that as I prefer to have the hands on control between songs - ie if someone else comes up by mistake, song change, wrong version, no show, etc...I also prefer it's graphics reproduction ove rthe mp3's - regular mp3 files look kind of edgy, the Hoster graphics are alot smoother, closer to the disc look.

I have herd Hoster mentioned a few times throught this thread.
Does Hoster mean displaying who's up next,
a way of searching the next song, or a combination of things.

Weedy my wish list is pretty simple really I would be happy with a prog similar to sax n dottys but that stepped down to the next song after the current one was finished, and either started automatically or used the space bar as a trigger so as it was a simple process. I am a singer using cdg as backing on laptop. to take my eyes off front of house in my opinion is rude, I should be interacting with the crowd
So thats it really, I just wanna load and play...I like the idea of a zip player oh and a compressor/normalise function would be cool so as I dont have to keep tweaking volume
Thank you for asking me btw.

It's not that.
Once a band member called my X (the singer) an old trout.
I split my sides laughing.
Once I finnished wiping my blood off my face...
Well... I honestly appreciate a singers adrenalin now.

Right then, do you need the lyrics screen? If so, do you use more than one screen? The only way to add signal processing to your voice is if your vocals are running through the computer. Please tell me you're not doing that.
