Post subject:  What Does It Take To Make A Change? (Attention Phill, Possibly Some Good Ideas Here)

I haven't been around KS/SS as long as Steven, Milo, Luly, Billy, Charmin, Joyce and many others. Historically, just what did it take to have a rules/format change put into place around here?  Is all of our serious (and sometimes not so serious) discussion on what we'd like to see changed just pointless in the long run?  It might save us all a lot of trouble if it is!  LOL  Heck I should have probably just gone straight to Phill with these questions.  Comments anyone?

I added a very basic poll question to see if most people want to continue having a publicly viewed critique/'how am I doing'/constructive criticism section at all.

UPDATE: OK, I just received an e-mail response from the Karaoke Scene administration and they said that they would be happy to review whatever format changes we may decide upon.  But they also stated that they could NOT make a promise to implement them. To repeat, our plans will be considered though.

Thats what Im talkin about...I hope Admin or somebody high up there will *see* that there is room for a change here ! Somethings gotta give..Maybe we can all be ADULTS ???? & stop treating people so bad...Ive had my share just as alot of others have too ! Its sad to think that someone has to stalk a person just to get their goat ! But sometimes a pest is just a pest !!!! And *something* has to happen to that person to get them to stop...I think thats where admin & Phill are (sorry guys
) "dropping the ball" I wrote PMs to BOTH admin AND Phill about my situation & Admin NEVER answered & Phill said he would get back to me & NEVER did..So there ya go ! Its never gonna stop if they dont want it to. JMHO.

I should mention that I'm not attempting to stir up any extra trouble here.  I'm just curious about how things really work around here. What is the process involved?  Could a users committee be formed and give formal recommendations?

Im sorry if you considered that "stirring up extra trouble" I wasnt. It was just heavy on me to say what I felt.  I just want all this garbage to stop just like most everyone here. Its been painfully, in your face, obvious that admin or Phill MUST address these issues. Are we allowed to take a poll of such things has ANYONE asked?? Even if we do,will the big guys take it seriously ??? I think its just stoopid sometimes myself  but to have peace Im all for a vote on solutions !

No Kelley!  You're fine!  :) That second comment of mine just landed right by yours by coincidence as an after thought. I agree with what you're saying on these other issues.

I THINK your shirt says, GETOVERIT????  Im OLD .... the vision is really going!!  But... that is what it looks like to me, Kelley!

I've been around this place for about 3 yrs...... and yes, typically speaking .... it does take Phill's attention and whatever it is he has to do ...... to bring around changes that are suggested.

Actually Odie .... when I got here ...... things were different ...... and some suggestions made in the forums did eventually come to fruition.

For instance .... This entire submission process was revamped.

Rank/Critique Submission?  Yes   No  (still allows comments)
Allow Comments?  Yes   No
Theme of Week?  Yes   No

Before this, all subs were open to critique.  THEN...... when things started to get "hot" and people started to feel hurt, stalked, or offended (and let me tell ya, it wasn't just those receiving the critques ..... but those GIVING them as well that got raked over the coals) that is when the option for whether you wanted a critque or not was implemented.

I saw that Luly suggested that there should be a way in which the submitter could delete a nasty or inappropriate critque.  I think this is a good idea.  It certainly would put a stop to those that intentionally say very hurtful things.  They may get to post their comment, but it wouldn't stay visible for very long ...... which MIGHT really help lift the morale around here again.  However, I do think that sometimes its important for a person wanting to be critiqued to receive and appreciate some of the "not so favorable" comments .....  as long as they aren't insulting or attacking.  If done with kindness and well stated, those kinds of comments probably SHOULD stay on a "critique" submission ...... after all, the person has asked for "critique" .... which usually implies ......... Tell me what you like and DISLIKE about this performance.  How should I change it..... What should I leave alone.

But............ any way .......... the answer, ODIE ....... is to start the thread with PHIL ........ we are making suggestions here ........ or something along those lines to get his attention .... and if enough people are in favor of the change ..... he will try to get things shaking.  At least, that is how it used to be.  I haven't been around much this year..... so Im not sure if things have changed a lot or not.

I have my share of "stalkers" too..one in particular that if only knew WHAT their problem was only then will I reply to the nasty threats and junk I get in my mailbox  on a regular basis.  It seems some of us have become punching bags for folks who are frustrated and having a bad time of it.  I never seem to learn that fighting fire with fire only puts a bad light on me but my new policy is to report this type of stuff EACH and EVERY time it occurs, where ever it occurs and report it to administration; this I will do for myself only.  It may not change anything but perhaps if they get tired of it something will be done.

I agree. It seems as though some of us HAVE become punching bags for folks who are frusterated and having a bad time of it...I believe I was a punching bag here recently.

I still like Luly's suggestion about removing or approving comments mentioned in Cindy's post above.

Well, it sounded like you were replying to me so I replied in return keeping with the topic started by me and replied to by you.  Your last remark could have been PM'd to me.  This is how the friction occurs.

I wonder if "X" accepted that bribe that was tendered?  If so, this person is now basking on the sunny shores of Puerto Rico on a PC-less remote section of the island.

I don't think it is a good idea to have an option in SS where the member can remove comments that they don't like. Such option can be easily be abused.

SS is not moderated, unlike the forum. Maybe what SS need is a mod.or two and a form of fast system to comunicate with them.

Ah, ha!  Well this seems like one thing that could be fixed for sure! Have mods in SS too that could watch out for blatantly inflamed song comments that are more directed at the person then the performance.  It seems to me from observing things that fights often start in the SS comments, THEN they get dragged out into the KS forum "street".
