Got replaced by Karaoke guy who uses computer for karaoke. He claims 150,000 songs. Sure beats my 6000 legal songs on cdg. How much would 150,000 legal songs cost?? This new guy also has 2 other kjs doing other gigs on computer. Cloned harddrive possible??? How do I keep up? If you cant beat em, join em??? Please give me a few ideas before I have a mental breakdown. Thanks.

maybe you should remind the bar that replaced you with SC and Stellar (PHM)'s new stance on enforcement of their material... the venues are being sued a possible $250,000 PER track, and up to six months in jail PER track for data being on computer, whether "legal" (i.e. "purchased") or not! Even if this guy IS legit (which I highly doubt), they're cracking down!

Better yet maybe give SC a call and let THEM know you have a mutlirigger operating at THAT BAR and let THEM give the him AND the barowner a jingle!

Even better yet, take the guy to court for unfair business practices or something.  Even if you don't win a lawsuit, you can perhaps make him prove that his collection legal.

Just a though

I would just sit tight.. They could very well call you back.. Quantity of songs does not always mean a quality show........

Illegal Hardrives are one thing -

I don't think any KJ every got replaced just for quantity of songs
An owner could give a rats azz of how many songs you have in your library

Reasons for Replacement
#1) MONEY - How much does this muti rigger charge
#2) PERSONALITY-  Did you have any issues with the Owner? Bartenders? Regular customers?
#3) Show Qualty: Again did you have any issues with your singers? rotation? sound quality?
#4) - Maybe this new KJ knows someone at the bar ????

Keep the faith and I hope you get your gig back !

YEah, probably money, money, money.

IF I wasn't ordering discs every month, and just downloaded the songs illegally,I could lower my prices my a substantial ammount.

Post subject:  Re: I wish the Karaoke Police were in my town!!!

There indeed could have been several reasons for the change.

I had a job from a referral at an Eagles club.   This place really took off.    People were coming an hour early to make sure they could get a table.   The kitchen was going crazy because everyone came to eat, also.    So everyone was very happy with the way things were going.   The club was booming money wise.

Now we have a new election and the officers changed.    There was a member there that was a "KJ" too.    Nothing close to being in my league.   But he kept crying about giving him the job.    Eventually the new entertainment director caved in.   Now nobody was paying any attention to the cash register readings.   But you can guess what happened.    This "KJ" really killed the crowd in a big hurry.     The rest is history.     Crappy sound, no selection.     You all know the routine.

I lost another job I interviewed for because the other KJ was $5 (five) cheaper.    I asked the owner and that's what he told me.     You can't make something up, that stupid sounding. LMAO

To a stupid bar owner a big selection could be considered a selling point.     That doesn't mean the songs sound good.

Also I keep yacking about your reputation.     It only takes one loud mouth singer to start crying to the owner about you.   Even if it isn't true, the bar owner will take the $1 paying customers word over yours, in a heart beat.     They are a paying customer.    You are a liability because he has to pay you.

I just got together with a bunch of singers last night.     They all told me about the crappy karaoke competition I have all around this entire area.    But I mentioned to them that all of these crappy KJs still are working.   WHY?

Stupid bar owners.

Cheaper rates.

Dive bars.

Lesser talented singers, that could care less about the quality of the sound.

Maybe they are a friend of a friend.

Someone doesn't like you.   I have had a few egg heads that are never happy about the rotation.   Always think I'm doing something to "them."  For some imaginary reason.    All of which are totally unfounded.   But maybe it's the amount of alcohol or drugs they ingested that has fogged up their brain.

Take your revenge to the nearest bar to the one that just dumped you.    Give them a good starting price and take all of the competitions crowd down the street.

The first thing every dumped KJ thinks is that it's your fault.    Sometimes it could very well be your fault.   Because of the afore mentioned things.    But only you can evaluate you as a KJ.  Sometimes it's a hard thing to do.  You may have to get some honest opinions from some other outside people.   Fix what you need to fix.

Other times it has nothing to do with you, except that the bar owner may think a $100 a night hack might be a better investment.   In his wallet.     You will never out smart a bar owner.   They are just too stupid for that.     They will always be right.   Even if they are offered proof in black and white.

I just quit a 2 night a week job.    The bar owner hired someone to take my place.    She has already dropped one night and very soon she will stop doing karaoke because my replacement isn't me.   Can not do what I do.    Doesn't sound as good and anything goes.     They have a "Hard Drive" with a bigger selection and they are most likely cheaper, but that doesn't make them me.     So the crowd is being killed.   The owner will get exactly what she deserves.   I will move on to other bars.     She will loose a very big chunk of income.  All because she is stupid and made a bad business decision.      I warned her about what was coming but she didn't listen.   I dumped her like she had the plague.      The bar is looking like it has been quarantined.   May as well have the yellow tape around the building. LMAO  LMAO

So move on.   It will happen to you many times again.   If it's you, fix the problem.    If it was just a stupid bar owner, move on to the next stupid bar owner.   The country has one on every corner.     You will never run out. :O  LMAO

Post subject:  Re: I wish the Karaoke Police were in my town!!!

See the thing with BD is that he is VERY CAPABLE of writing VERY incisive, observant and skilled posts that are very knowledgable and with useful expereince and wisdom.................WHEN HE CHOOSES TOO. In this particular case HE CHOSE to.  And the the result is,  as I Said before,  one of his VERY BEST POSTING EFFORTS EVER.

UNFORTUNATELY with MOST(NOT ALL), BUT MOST of his posts he CHOOSES to rabble-rouse, raise hate and discontent, disprect people here with cheap shots, putdowns, blow-offs and other insulting and unhelpful remarks. It really makes MOST of his writing unreadable and not worth the time to give him the RESPECT HE MIGHT OTHERWISE COMMAND and CERTAINELY DIMINSHES his CREDIBILTY that he might otherwise have with both the newer AND more expereinced KJ's here.

But when he DOES CHOOOSE to write a THOUGHTFUL and AND HELPFUL POST,
I WILL BE THE VERY FIRST TO COMMENT ON ITS USEFULLNESS AND INSIGHT and GIVE HIM CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.

BUT WHEN HE CHOOSES to INTENTIONALY WRITE GARBAGE JUST TO GET A RISE OUT OF PEOPLE....................WELL THEN OF COURSE I WILL HAMMER HIM!!

SO BD KEEP THE WISDOM AND INSIGHTFUL POSTS COMING--as they are VERY HELPFUL and INTERESTING TO READ! BUT DROP THE NONSENSE and GARBAGE as they serve very little purpose.

And that IS FOR THE RECORD!!

First, a hearty hello to a familiar face. Nice to see your smilin' avatar, Twan..

Now, on to business.  Yes, you can do all these things, but it won't help your current position. The venue owner didn't repace you because this guy has a gazillion songs- he doesn't care.  He may have done it  because the jerk ( anyone who tries to cut in on a working venue whether the host is good or bad is a lowlife. I only scout venues without hosts) underbid you. Or he may have convinced the owner that he had a bigger following, or any other reason.  If you are still on good ( or speaking) terms with the owner, why not ask?

I am disc based, and not a computer fan for technical reasons, but I can't see blaming THEM for a lost gig.  If the guy's a pirate he was able to come in low, but that would apply with pirated discs as well.
