Hi,

This topic was locked and since the solution wasn't posted I introduced it again.
I appear to be having the same problem as the person below.  Identical machine.
Works fine except for the karaoke and mike.  CD-G plays and seems to be recognized but I can't hear the mic.

>I just got a Sanyo DVD-DX506 from Costco. It has karaoke function with CD, DVD+R,
>DVD-R CD-G, CD-DA, MP3 (Region 1). I hooked it up to my suround sound system.
>The DVD player (audio and Video) works fine when I select the proper source on my
>amplifier.

I tried a dynamic mike with A3F XLR jack to 1/4” phono plug.  I also tried a mike
I had for the PC with a miniplug to phone adapter on the end.  No luck with either.
The DVD player is connected into the receiver with video to the TV.  I tried both the
digital audio and standard L-R directly pluged to the TV.  I don't hear anything with
the mikes (no feedback or static when plugging them or unplugging them).   No
sign they are working at all.

Does anyone have any experience with these machines?  Might it be some sort of setting problem?

Thanks!!!

So does your Sanyo unit have a 1/4" phone jack for a microphone input?  Plus you have a microphone that uses a cable with XLR connectors?

The DVD player has a 1/4 inch phone jack and I have a cable with a phone jack one end and an XLR connector on the other end which attachs to the microphone.

Essentially yes to both questions.

I found the manual online for this unit.  www.sanyo.ca/en-CA/entertainment/dvdplayers/downloads/dvd-dx506_e.pdf

The microphone instructions on page 19 are pretty straight forward and aren't complicated.  It doesn't specify what impedance the microphone needs to be -- high or low.  Have you tried contacting Sanyo's technical support.  See what they have to say.  Is this a used unit or is it fairly new and replaceable at Costco if it's defective?
The instructions for using a mic are so basic that there's little that could go wrong as far as settings.

some wireless mics won't work with certain players... something about the frequency they use is also the same as the frequency the player uses...

acekaraoke.com used to contain such info on their pages of the players, but they stopped a while back for some reason. Personally, I found that very informative as it might avoid such issues as this.

I agree, though, that you need to check with the retailer or manufacturer of the player. They're going to know exactly what the issue is, or will be able to find the answers!

Thanks for the replies.  I did contact sanyo technical support.  They gave what I thought was going to be the solution.  Karaoke is not supported on the digital
audio connections only on the red/white stero connections.  I had been using the digital audio connected to my receiver.  I switched and tried the stereo outputs.  It still did not work, however, for the first time I did get a bit of static (a few times) when I plugged and unplugged the microphone, which would seem to indicate the plug is active.

Just to let everyone know that for this unit you at least have to use the stereo outputs for the Karaoke.  I have connected them again and will post an update when I have
heard back from them.
