I'm looking around on ebay and I see people selling the SM58 wireless mics on it's own. What reciever would I need to make it work? What makes the difference, the mic or the reciever? I still have yet to find the right mic for my tiny 15x15 family room. I'm trying to spend around 300 bucks.

I had the same question about a year ago.  I ended up buying 2 SM58 and SM87 then upgraded to 2 Shure SLX/87A wireless.  You would need to buy a mic system.  It's also cheaper to by a package than separate components.  Wireless mic have 3 components - the head, transmitter and receiver.  The head is the grill cone on the SM58 that you can remove and use with any Shure system (wired or wireless handle).  Other than that, the handle of the SM58 you can buy from eBay will not work with wireless receiver.  Under $300, you may get a Shure PGX and head of your choice (SM58, SM86...).

I'm sorry I should have been more clearer with my statement. Will $300-ish get me a set of 2 mics?

Since you will be using the mics for home use, you might get more for your money by buying wired mics.  The Shure SM58 is being sold for $99, but you could get a better price at northernsound.net.

If it's a true diversity reciever yes.    That means it has two receiver channels A & B for one microphone.      Two antennas, one microphone.

If it's two microphones and two antenna, no way.    This setup leaves a dead spot for the receiver coverage.   You will have to adjust the antenna to put the dead spot on the ceiling.

If you will only use these in the house then either one will due.    If you ever want to do karaoke for a living.    NO   Use the first option.
