Here is my problem. I love to sing but have a VERY limited range. I can only do songs in a certain key (99% of the time it is NOT the key the arrangement is in). My VOCO PRO has pitch control....however, we cruise a lot and have found that the pitch control on some of their karaoke systems are worn out. I have looked into purchasing a KC -100 key shifter....but I doubt the KJ would allow me to hook it up.... so the only other option I have found is software that would allow me to re key the songs (complete with lyrics) and burn it . That would be a great help because I would not have to haul all these canned cdgs onboard...but could just take disks with the specific songs I do. Has anyone used any of this software successfully. I know enough about a computer to get myself in trouble......completely computer challeneged where terminology is concerned. I would much prefer to simply pay someone $5 a song to do it for me...but I don't know of that is a service that is available out there. Thanks for any direction you can give this old musical soul!! |

Thanks so much I received your PM. How would that work? Would I just send you my CDGS (UPS) with a list of songs and how I would like them pitched? I have about 30 songs currently that I do on a regular basis. Does the software they sell on the Internet for computer to rekey really work? While the entire software set is about $200.00....it would be cheaper in the long run and more convenient. ...unless I could find someone that does that in the Memphis, Tennessee area. I know what you mean about owning the originals. I can't tell you the number of people who have asked to "bootleg" my canned cds. I just look them straight in the eye and say "sorry, that is theft and I don't steal from people"! Let me give some thought to buying the software and if I don't and can't find someone local...I will give you a shout! You would think with Memphis being a music town and having things like Sun records here....someone would offer this service locally. Thanks so much. |

You can get the software from several sources...Here is what I use and it works great: Microstudio & Keywrite by MTU Plextor External Burner certified by MTU www.mtu.com Right now they have a sale on burners and the software until the end of the year. |

UPS/usps and I change em and burn em, and UPS/USPS em back Quote: Does the software they sell on the Internet for computer to rekey really work? Yes most do, there are a couple that are crap, ask here before buying to see if anyone has had experince with itQuote: While the entire software set is about $200.00....it would be cheaper in the long run and more convenient. ...unless I could find someone that does that in the Memphis, Tennessee area. You could contact MANINBLACK, a user of this forum, he is in Tennessee, and perhaps knows of somone/somplace that could do it locallly for youQuote: I know what you mean about owning the originals. You will also get the software for what you need at http://www.powerkaraoke.com. You would need Karaoke Sound Tools to change the key (you may also use it to slow down or speed up the song) and Power CD+G Burner to burn the songs back to the CD+G disc. Power CD+G Burner works with most drives. |

Thanks so much. The Powerkaraoke was actually the website I was looking at to purchase the software. I have a brand new computer with all the bells and whistles...but I don't know if I have the brains to operate it. I will do some more checking before I leap. Thanks again so much!! |

I believe even the free editing/recording software Audacity has a key change option |

There are two ways to go about it: !. Play the track with what ever player you have that support key change. Then record the track. The result will not be that good, but it works. For that you may need a recording program; Audacity and KRISTAL are free. 2. Use a recording program that have key change feature, ie Cool Edit Pro. Load the track and change the key and save the new track. Good luck |

Will Audacity not only change the key, but copy the graphics over as well???? I would love to just have 3 or 4 cdgs with all the songs I do, instead of having to haul my book around and then run across a situation (like of the cruise ship last week) that their pitch control is not functioning. |

I have never heard a key changer I liked so my first best advice would be increase your vocal range with excercises and practice. However, if I understand what you are trying to do, there is a command line program called soundtouch by the guy who wrote PaceMaker that raises or drops a wav file by a specified amount. It sounds like just what you need and it's free. |

NO, audacity does not handle the graphics part. You would have to rip out your song to a WAV and CDG file. Use WAV file so you don't loose anything in the song. Use Audacity to change the key. Then burn your CDG disc usinging the converted WAV file and the original CDG file. |
