In another thread a couple of people indicated they agree with Simon on AI.

And, usually, so do I.

What say most of you?  Agree?  Disagree?

Sometimes I agree with him, Sometimes I think he's just drunk or being stupid.  Whats her name Paula likes everyone....But the first Guy- I can't remember his name- Is right 99% of the time.

Sometimes Simon is right, Sometimes he's just being an arse hole!!!
And the rest of the time Simon is just plain silly!!!!

Nothing I have said is meant to offend anyone...It's just fact!!!  It's not my opinion either because I don't have an opinion....All I know is fact!!!!  LMAO  LMAO  LMAO

I personally think it's really hard to judge what makes a singer good or bad (IMO) because the singers I gravitate toward are never technically based. Just like beauty, talent is in the eye of the beholder. That's why I don't bother to watch AI or other such shows.

I've only seen the show two or three times but I found myself in agreement with Simon more often than I expected.

Thats why chuck...you didn't watch it enough to see when he gets in his silly mode!!
It's obvious when you watch a whole season like I did this past season.  LMAO

He right quite often, but some times I think he's just in a bad mood???  :headscratch:

I have to say Simon says what I'm thinking a lot of the time, but I wouldn't say it out loud. I think he could get across his meaning without being so mean.

I usually agree with Simon's assessment and observations.  In fact, what Simon says, is often more mild-mannered than what many of us are thinking or saying under our breath... (let's be realistic)..

I disagree with his presentation and blunt means of interacting with others. Today it isn't considered "PC", HOWEVER, does that make his points incorrect ? There is something quite important to consider. While I can't stand public denigration, and find TV the wrong place for such indignant behaviour,  The music and performing arts industry is EVERY BIT as judgmental if not more-so than the reality of Simon's presentation..  Difference being.  Simon says it.. Others don't and cut your throat without telling you.. Or,  you show up at a gig,and find the band you formed has replaced you with another guitarist... Finding the actual reason why is never so easy, all of a sudden your old "buddies" snub you, you become a sudden outcast..

This is how the performing arts works... Like a race horse,  on the pro-level.. When you don't perform, they put you down.. just shoot you and dump you..

Simon's presentation and directness is the problem most have.  Not his ability to scout talent. In brief, you must consider the perspective here.... Those of us that teach music, are music/musician hobbyists try to share and nurture/cultivate the enthusiasm of our art..  Simon is at a different corner of this... He's viewing this from the perspective of "The Industry business level".  It's not the same fun as we hobbyists see..  To climb in music is UGLY.. Dealing with producers and business people is ALL about $$$$..  Love of music and aesthetic enjoyment falls short here...  It was tough for the longest time for me to maintain a LOVE for music, after breaking down while on the road.. I didn't roll with the punches well.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

Is Simon actually correct ?   and our softness in lieu of living among "Be polite", "you must be PC" what's wrong ?  Is the drill Sgt actually wrong ?  Should anyone entering AI be prepared and a better quality performer than those Simon has to tell "suck" ?   Who is wrong here ?   Simon is realistic.. Harsh..  As are the performing arts on the pro-level with Ego's, backtalk, hypercritical audiences that clap despite trashing the performer.  Example..  If I give you a 4 in Singer's Showcase am I wrong ?   or are the people trashing me that gave you 10's wrong ? LMAO .   Who's being real and honest with you ?

I agree with you both....Maybe Simon is just trying to see how tough they are and how mature they are when it comes to taking the harshness that they will have to endure if they win and actually get a contract.  The music Biz isn't for those who are weak minded for sure, and you must be able to learn from your mistake's and let a lot of stuff roll off your back and be strong minded enough to continue on and make it though everything that crosses your path while trying to make it to the top.

Hopping back into the fray, the "other" guy (Randy) is in over his head technically.  But he knows what he likes, and that usually works for me.

However, when someone sings off-key, he tells them they were "pitchy".  When some is offkey they are off key and either sharp or flat.  I have an excellent ear and I have heard Randy tell people who had NOT gone off key and actually nailed the song (usually those with difficult intonations), that they were pitchy.  That drives me nuts when it happens!

Simon, rarely, in my opinion, makes a technical observation that wasn't right on.  But like the rest of us, he's not alway right either.  But I'm with him about 90%

I did notice Randy make that mistake a few times about being off when they were not or atleast to my ears anyway. Made me wonder what he heard that I missed???

But I seemed to agree with him more so than Paula or Simon.  Don't get me wrong though because there were plenty of times I did agree with Simon, just sometimes I felt he was being Biased for one reason or another....But thats just me. :)

I totally agree about Randy - It really bothered me when he'd say someone was pitchy when they weren't.
