Post subject:  How much $$ for gig pictures?

To widen my shows appeal, I'm wanting to offer a 4" X 6" color photo of the customer(s) singing. I'm sure this happens elsewhere, just curious as to what others charge as a barometer for what I need to charge. I've got a Kodak CX6330 digital camera w/printer dock that I'm wanting to use for this purpose. It can print photos directly from the camera. Good camera, good setup, don't use it at all at home.

There will be advertisements on the tables and a few placed throughout the bar for the customers encouragement.

I was figuring on the $5-7 range, since none of the ink/photo paper is cheap.

Thanks,

Hey Toots,

I got good sound, as committed to the rotation as anyone else. Just lookin to liven up the show, offer alternatives, mementos etc.

A karaoke bar we went to once sold picture's for seven dollars, but that included a keychain that the picture was inserted into...There for serving two purposes:

(1) Key chain with karaoke bar logo on one side...(cheap way to advertise )

Plus....

(2) Picture of customer singing or with a friend on the other side...( As a gift )

Jesse that is a good marketing tool, I approve as to taking pics just for the sake of in the hopes that the punter will feel suitably gratified is kinda weird considering you are there to attend to the rotate and keep the singers happy
Oh and over here "toots" is a patronising term, I dye my hair red as a direct reflection of the volatility of my nature ;-)

I forgot to mention....The karaoke host didn't bother with the picture taking and or selling of such to the customers.  They had other staff go around doing the picture taking and selling while the karaoke host kept the show going.

Thanks Vicki  :)

I think $5 would do also it could be a token to bring in more singers. Extra little things you can offer can make a crowd happy.

Jim, why are you trying to turn your karaoke shows into Disneyland?

IMHO, you're taking the complete opposite approach of what you should be taking.  It seems like you're trying to do stuff to please people who don't normally go to karaoke.  You should be focusing on doing stuff to please the hardcore karaoke regulars, because they're the ones who are going to keep you in business.

We regulars don't need a photograph as a memento of our night out at karaoke.  When we're there week after week after week, the novelty aspect of it has long worn off and most of us wouldn't have a clue 6 months later which night we've preserved for posterity in a photograph.  In the same vein, I don't think most of us would really care whether or not our image is being projected onto some screen somewhere while we sing.  In fact, I personally wouldn't like it at all.

And if I'm a regular at your show, I really don't want to see you in your Blues Brothers costume doing the same song and same routine week after week after week.  What would be cute once would be grating and annoying by about the third time I saw it.  And a KJ who I find annoying is a KJ whose show I'm going to abandon pretty quickly.

If you want to keep me as a regular at your show I don't want or need all the bells and whistles.  Have a good selection of music that you regularly update, know how to adjust your sound levels so I don't sound like crap (or if I do sound like crap it's because of me), run a fair rotation, don't sing the same few songs night after night, and make sure that by the end of the night I haven't heard you singing twice as much as anyone else in the bar, try to encourage people to occasionally break out of their comfort zone and try new songs.  And burn every disc that you own that contains "Love Shack" and "Summer Nights".  OK, that last one was wishful thinking more than anything else.

That is the type of stuff that will keep me there.  Cheeseball gimmicks will drive me away.

Well, Im glad that I reread the title - I thought is said "Gag" pictures. Whole different thought there.

Anyway, I agree with Re Invention

The best way to keep your show fresh at the same time draw regulars is to have a great selection. Add new songs constantly. Have an excellent system and above all be personable.

One thing that will make people leave is a KJ that is all about themselves. You are there to provide a service. Make it the best of what it is. Forget the gimmicks. Brush up on people skills - know your audience - I mean get to know them - remember their names, say hi when they walk in. This about them and their good time. If they have a good time I guarantee that you will too.

That is a suggestion from a long time Karaoke Fan. I'm not a KJ and I don't know your business - but I know business and I know people. The best way to be remembered is as the guy that gave them a great night.

Reinvention, you may have a point. I may try it, if it don't catch fire...oh well. It's just a little something extra to inspire/interest the crowd. I probably would'nt have the time to take the pics...maybe/maybe not, gotta keep the RSQ fed and the coming singers cued. If I'm on the ball, I could usually break for a quick photo op.

I think its worth trying. We got these good looking Budweiser settings that set on the table for advertisements, (not being used at all right now) one side could be the photo ad, the other weekly/daily specials etc.

MorganFey, had no idea you was a red head. Lucky guess..I guess. Over here we like red heads, we consider them blondes in heat.   LMAO

Hon...Toots, I think we're even.

Just worry about QUALITY karaoke and forget everything you think you know.     You should have hired an experienced KJ to make you big money.

Do you want your karaoke business to last 14 years or 14 minutes.   If I did half of the things you are suggesting ........   My competition would be doing all of my jobs.

How much will the customers have to pay to get a real KJ?

Why charge anything, post the pics on your website, no ink costs & they can print for free.

Baghdad Bob (little pup) - KMA

Lonman - good suggestion, had'nt thought of that. There is a Homer's website created by a customer a year or two ago. It has pics from the bar and of them etc.
I know very little about starting a website. If I did, this would be an excellent avenue to try. It's easy to put the pics on the web, don't know if I want to use her website or not, I'm sure she would'nt object.

I'm also sure some people would appreciate a hard copy there on site.

I agree with several posts here....don't try to be too much of a gadget or gimic KJ your customers really do not care about those sort of things and it will further distract you from giving them what they want...that is attention and quality music and sound. After all ....the show is about them! Not the KJ...They are just there to sing and have fun.

Lonman had a great idea...put em on a website so they can print them for free.

Actually I am seeing more & more bars starting MySpace sites as well - it's easy & free, no webhosting fees or name fees & you can post pics, videos (although they are actually cracking down - supposedly - on karaoke video posts such as YouTube members).  It's a great tool as you can promote to your customers to join the bar site, you can send bulletins to them regarding specials & events, post blogs like a night in the life of the bar or whatever.....Maybe keep the picture printer there for special event - birthdays mainly, those might be the type that may pay for a pic on the spot.
