I just got hired as a volunteer for the River City Bluegrass Festival in Portland the first week in January, just got my email confirmation with the days & times & what areas I'll be helping out in.

http://www.rivercitybluegrass.com/index.htm

What is SO cool.... this is a HUGE Bluegrass Festival here. I'll be doing volunteer duties friday night & saturday afternoon... which gets me 2 free day passes to all events.

May not sound like a big deal to some of you all, but.....

Saturday, I can make the jam session, then check in to do my shift, and be off in time to get to see..... performing live......

Rhonda Vincent..

and then

EMMYLOU HARRIS!!!!!!!

I'm so punmped, I can't even think straight:)  :drunk:    :dancin:  :hi5:

It's not every day Emmylou comes to Oregon. (or Rhonda Vincent either) Emmylou is the one who's got me pumped though, she's one of my biggest idols. I would have had to pay $125 for a weekend pass.... now I don't have to pay anything, plus I get a free T-shirt for being a volunteer.  LOL (and who knows, I may get to see Emmylou up close.. ya never know)

Be excited for me, cause I'm literally about ready to pee my pants over this:)

Hahaha..... I took a potty break, no worries.

(dur dur, it took me a sec to figure out what you were talking about)  LOL

I've tried twice to answer you, but I'm having computer issues. (again!!) Da'mn it.

My IE keeps erring out & shutting down, I can't hardly even get through a message. And my Norton wont run at all.  :(

I tried to talk a *friend* into coming over to fix it, but he's not game.
(dear friend of mine... come fix it, THEN we can head to the cabin)  LMAO

Thank you James:)

Haha. Yup, I am..... and I do:)

You could come go with Steven. There's gonna be lots of jamming sessions, people from all over the Northwest packing in instruments. Might rub noses with some really good players:) It wont be Weiser Idaho, but it should be fun.

One small issue is... my hubby don't know yet. He's gonna be like "you're doing WHAT?"  LMAO ... I guess he can volunteer too if he wants, not likely he'll get scheduled at this date though. And he wouldn't volunteer anyhow. So, he can buy an all day pass to get in, or stay home:) I aint missing this, not for anybody.

Thank you Cindy. I plan on taking my camera, and seeing if I can borrow Odie's digital camcorder (oh yeah, that's right, I still have it here, hahaha) Sssshhhh.... don't tell him though. And, I'm gonna take a cell phone too that takes pics & videos, just in case they have some rule against it. (cause I can sneak 'em that way)

Oh, Milo, I wish you COULD be here to go with. I have nobody to go with but my other half... and he will SO not be excited about it. The best he'll do is keep saying "Calm DOWN Charmin, it's just Emmylou Harris".    He doesn't share my enthusiasm for bluegrass music. Some of the rest of my family might go. Hey, I just thought of something...... I'll be wearing a RCBF shirt..... I can push my way to the FRONT row, and it will look legit.

(i best calm down, or i'll likely end up just getting my arse kicked out, haha)

The better musicians during such times need to step down from their throne, and look at events such as these open jams as they are meant to be, FUN. In music, it's not always important that EVERYONE is a "good musician".  At times it's just a recreational social type thing.

It's funny Steven, the differenc in people. At Weiser Idaho, you get people from all corners of the US. (and Canada too)

There were a few family groups who thought they were there to "get discovered" and acted a bit uppity. I don't rub elbows with people like THAT.... I'd be more likely to just.... elbow them when they weren't looking. But, people who were basically nobodies. They may have a band in their home state, and play gigs, but not famous by any means. Just snobby.

Then, you get people like Mark O'Connor there. He sat in jam sessions in the camp ground. I sat right next to him listening to him play the fiddle. Very famous guy, very nice guy, and he put on no airs whatsoever.

Hell, maybe it's different elsewhere, but out here.... a jam session is just that. It's a "come one, come all"..... and your playing level matters not at all. (lucky for me, haha) It'll be big enough, I'm sure there'll be some of each level.... but nothing- NOTHING- will be able to wipe the smile off my face that day, of that I'm sure:)

I love hob-nobbin' with the bluegrass crowd:) It's gonna be the coolest day I've had in a long, long time..

The line up is listed on that link I gave.

Don Walser just passed away Steve..... and I truly don't know it he ever came here or not. He wasn't really *bluegrass* I don't think. Wasn't he more the country/ Texas Swing style of singer? I was never very familiar with him, though I do know who he was.

TY Steve... :)

LOL Don't worry Charmin!  You can use my camcorder if they'll let you take videos. This is really cool! Sounds like a perfect chance to see all these bluegrass greats for free.  David Grisman, Peter Rowan and David Bromberg will be there it looks like.  Wish I could see those guys as well as the ones you mentioned already.  :)
