Post subject: | New Year's Resolutions |
Well it's that time of year again folks, time to make those promises to yourself that you rarely ever keep... My resolution is to stop smoking, something I've been thinking about for quite some time. Back in July on my 50th birthday, I gave up drinking. Now mind you I still have the occasional ceremonial/toast shot, but nothing compared to what I once did. I'm doing it for the singing. Realizing that through Karaoke, I can once again give to the people my one true talent. I've only been smoking for about 12 years and still haven't broken the one pack a day habit. But it's time for a change. I now realize that I wont live to see another 50 years, but I would like to enjoy what time is left. I don't expect it to be as easy as sobriety has been, and I'm sure that I'll fall off on more than one occasion. I'm going to do this the old fashion way, I'm just going to quit cold turkey, just like I did drinking. My one greatest fear is not lung cancer but cancer of the throat and how ironic it would be that my one talent should be taken away by something as simple as a cigarette. It may be too late, as sometimes the results can still show up years after the fact. I just hope and pray that I have the strength to do this, not only for myself but the family and friends which bring so much happiness and love into my life. Anyway, that's it. I've already started cutting back, so when I finally put out that last smoke I'm hoping that I'll be able to resist the temptations better. As for you here, I wish you the best of luck in the upcoming year. May your dreams come true and you find the one thing in life that gives you purpose, whether it be a personal goal or finally making the effort to give your musical career the full attention it deserves. Good luck to you. James the Lion Hearted Maninblack White Trash Philosopher Humble Karaoke Host |

Tips for Making Good New Year's Resolutions There is a right way and a wrong way to make a New Year's resolution. Here are a few expert tips to see that your resolution actually makes a difference: 1. Create a Plan Setting a goal without formulating a plan is merely wishful thinking. In order for your resolution to have resolve, (as the word "resolution" implies), it must translate into clear steps that can be put into action. A good plan will tell you A) What to do next and B) What are all of the steps required to complete the goal. 2. Create Your Plan IMMEDIATELY If you're like most people, then you'll have a limited window of opportunity during the first few days of January to harness your motivation. After that, most people forget their resolutions completely. It is imperative that you begin creating your plan immediately. 3. Write Down Your Resolution and Plan myGoals.com exists to help you formulate a plan, which we then help you stick to. But even if you don't use myGoals.com, commit your resolution and plan to writing someplace, such as a notebook or journal. 4. Think "Year Round," Not Just New Year's Nothing big gets accomplished in one day. Resolutions are set in one day, but accomplished with a hundred tiny steps that happen throughout the year. New Year's resolutions should be nothing more than a starting point. You must develop a ritual or habit for revisiting your plan. myGoals.com helps you stick to your plan by providing email reminders that arrive when it's time to work on a given task. 5. Remain Flexible Expect that your plan can and will change. Life has a funny way of throwing unexpected things at us, and flexibility is required to complete anything but the simplest goal. Sometimes the goal itself will even change. Most of all, recognize partial successes at every step along the way. Just as a resolution isn't accomplished the day it's stated, neither is it accomplished the day you reach your goal. Rather, it's accomplished in many small increments along the way. Acknowledge these incremental successes as they come. And Always Remember "If at first you don't succeed, you are running about average." ~ ~ M H Alderson http://www.mygoals.com/about/NewYearsTips.html |

my new years resolution is to enjoy 2007 as much as I enjoyed 2006...well apart from the bit where my dad died...anyway my wish for my friends here is for a magical christmas (notice I say christmas cos I hate how the PC people try to make it into something that is nothing. If it has to be changed then it should revert back to the pagan festival it was) My second wish is that no matter what you are hoping for, it happens. and my third is that my imagination NEVER lets me down.... |

If it has to be changed then it should revert back to the pagan festival it was) I agree! Yuletide Greetins!Tomorrow is Yule! December 22nd, 2006 One of Four Lesser Sabbots. Quote: Yule Oh sorry did I high-jack this thread...
The Winter Solstice, Yule, marks the shortest day of the year and thus, the longest night. This is the darkest part of the year and therefore a time when the Sun God symbolically "dies". Yet He is reborn again to begin His reign all over. From this point on, the days get longer and eventually warmer as His strength grows and matures around MidSummer. The Goddess sleeps at this time after giving birth to the Sun God. The Death of the Holly King and the Birth of the Oak King is celebrated at this time. In our tradition, we see the Horned God as the ruler over this half of the year. As a protector of the wildlife and our Mother while she sleeps during the cold Winter months. He is at His strongest at this point. We like to celebrate this Sabbat by making Crafts indoors and giving them as presents. We tend to follow the idea of Brotherhood and Goodwill towards Man at this time. It is a reminder to us that these were harsh times for ancient people. They had to stick together in order to survive the Winter. We set up Yule trees, symbolic of the Tree of Life, and light candles to remind us that warmer days will return and from this day forth, the nights will be getting shorter and the days longer. My bad... |
