I don't know if this is technical or not, but here goes. I am trying to record myself with Audacity on a Windows box. It has a mode, the preferred one I presume, where you import a wav or mp3 and then play it back while recording an additional vocal track. I am able to record just fine, but the vocal and the audio base track do not seem to stay in sync on playback. I have only been singing for 18 months, so I could believe that I was not capable of staying in time with the music, but doing the same thing with Windows sound recorder and doing it "live", it sounds fine. And when I have recorded myself with regular audio tape I keep time as well. Is there some trick to syncing on playback for Audacity? |

complete gues here..... But it may be that the delay from when the music is played to when the voice is recordeded is the problem. A quick fix would be to bump the musci forward/backwar till it maches the vocals. Also, disable any programs running in the background (Anti-virus/spyware/IM progs, ect...) |

I used to use Audacity and never had sync problems. Make sure your sound card bitrate matches the one Audacity uses...should be 44100. I had a sync problem on other recording software when I changed sound cards...the new one used 48000 so I had to return it. |

Audacity is a piece of cake. I record my dry vocal into Audacity whilst listening to the backing music on a separate Audacity stereo track. I then save the vocal as a wav file and launch it into a program called mixcraft where I apply any EQ, FX etc. Resave as wav, then reload this back into audacity, using the envelope tool to increase / decrease the volume of the vocal track where required. (I could record my vocal straight into mixcraft but I find Audacity simpler). Synching the vocal to the backing takes about 30 seconds using the timeshift tool, and that's including double and triple checking. |

When recording using whatever program make sure that other program that run in the background are turn off. This will give you computer more resources. Recording is resource intensive. If the problem is that the vox track is not in sync then Elvisfan just solved it for you - timeshift it. The bigger problem is when the vox get slower over time. Do you have that problem too? |
