Thanks Morgan for the idea.....
Anyways.. I just like to do nice things for people all the time and being that this is the season of giving I was going to do something and one of my co-workers told me not to..
This is what I want to do..
Right behind where I work there is a small bridge..There are 7 peole living under this bridge. They mind their own business and don't seem to be causing any problems. I wanted to get them something like blankets or gloves and place them out there while they are not there during the day....My co-workers said that I shouldn't do anything for them cause they are wild animals and don't deserve anything...
I thought that was one of them meanest things I have ever heard of..I know I could go donate to a shelter some where, but to me that is just kind of a blind donation.
This way I will know that someone who really needed the items got them...I'm not talking money or anything fancy.. Blankets and gloves..How bad can that be??? What would you do??
Sharon

That's a wonderful idea Sharon -- especially during the winter!! Maybe some of your co-workers don't quite realize that with a streak of misfortune and several missed paychecks they and many others could end up being "wild animals under a bridge" too the morons!

Well you could shoot two of them, that way the other five would have more to eat.
I know bad joke, but that's kinda the mind set of some people.
Like today, I'm sitting in my local watering hole and the guys came in from work, griping about how bad work was and how much Christmas is costing them and blah, blah, blah, just typical redneck banter. So they ask me what I did today. I told them that I went down to the local Senior Center and help give out toys to the Headstart kids. Now for those of you who don't know what Headstart is, it's a preschool of sorts for lower income families. Some of the kids suffer from emotional problems and learning disabilities. But you got to love them just the same. Well anyway, the guys kinda rolled their eyes and under their breath did a 'whatever' or a slight sarcastic 'that's nice' and kinda snickered about it. But this just kinda gives you an idea of the ignorance I have to deal with from time to time. Like I'm always saying, you gotta love living in a small town. I did notice however one guy sitting at the bar that wasn't so amused with the reactions of some of the guys. He gets up, walks around to where I'm sitting, shakes my hand and says, 'thanks, my kid happens to go to that Headstart'. And boy you talking about giving folks a stare, it's like he stood there and just dared anyone to make another comment. Those ole boys didn't say a word, not only were they pretty embarrassed, but this ole boy was what we call a 'cornbread fed country boy'. He stands about 6' something and is all muscle.
But anyways, my point is that sometimes when we think about the poor and homeless, we sometimes view it as being somewhere else, like it couldn't happen in our own backyard. But on the contrary, poverty knows no boundaries.
So I applaud your efforts in wanting to help out those guys, but I say this with one thought of caution. Be very careful. I would not recommend you going alone, make sure you have a man go with you if and when you do this. A lot of these ole boys have been living on the streets for quite some time, and many do so without possibly having the medical and mental care they need. And please never be so naive that you forget that some of the folks on the streets are in fact dangerous, having fallen from grace because of drugs and alcohol. So just be cautious for your own safety. But again, you have my deepest respect for your kindness.
James

Thank you s much  all of you... I was beginning to think that it was a bad idea...I would never go alone.. And I wanted to do this annomously so they would come looking for who did it.... I think I said this before but I think they may work during the day or something because they disappear and then reappear in the evenings. It's a warehouse area so I would think they very could possibly be working....
And heck I know all too well what it is like to be homeless...Been there and done that...I am by no means a rich person, never have been, and there have been people in my life that helped me for no aparent reason..
Perhaps that is why I am so into the random acts of kindness...Whether it is holding a door open for an edlerly person or a young mother with a stroller to maybe paying for a child to do or buy something....It is random and you know when it hits you..Kinda like standing in the grocery store line and you have 30 items in your basket and someone gets in line behind you and they only have 2 items...You let them go in front of you...It's just the little things.. That is all...
Because you know what.. if you do it for someone they will do it for someone also and I beleive that it makes the world a better place, and sometimes it just might make that person's day.....

Pay it forward, GF. As always, you rock. I think we have some extra blankets. I may have some pillows, too.
They may be scrounging for food during the day. How well can you scope 'em out? Some canned food that can be eaten at room temp might be welcomed. And a can opener, just in case. When are we going shopping? We can talk....
Animals, indeed! There, but for the grace of a higher power, go we.

I like the idea also "Random acts of kindness"
I have been doing it for years as well...
One thing that I really get a kick out of doing is:
Here in Baltimore we have toll roads anywhere from $1 up to $5 When I go through occassionally (not always but often) I pay for the vehicle behind me. They don't know me or I them - but it is a hoot to see them smile and wave to me as they drive to catch up to me as we get through the booths. Hopefully some day they will do the same for another.
Also, when I am at a drive thru - sometimes I pay for the order in the car behind me. I ask first what the amount is - I mean what if they are buying burgers or tacos for the entire soccer team! But usually it is around $5 to $15 - I get a kick out of it!
Just my way of "paying it forward!"
Keep up the good work -
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

btw. My family would like to thank you for the blankets and gloves Sharon, but while we were waiting for dinner behind Phills car, somebody stole my gloves. Could you please send some money this year ? Oh yeah, and everyone should learn by example. What Sharon did was extremely kind-hearted, and you all should join such acts of kindness. Sharon, Please feel free to divulge my address to all the good-hearted people in here !
