The last piece of the puzzle for my system is a monitor besides my laptop screen, which is fine for friends and parties, but when and if I do a paying gig, i will need a monitor. what is the best idea here? I'm thinking go to compUSA and buy a cheap 17" flat screen monitor, but thought I'd ask the experts since they helped me so much with my present setup.... |

I would assume that your laptop has a S-video out? Use that, and get a cheap small TV, and a RF modulator if needed to convert the S-video to coaxial or composite. Ya can usualy find a small TV at pawn/goodwill/2nd hand store for under $50 and a RF modulator new for $15 BUt barring that option, just get the cheapest LCD screen you can find. Shop around, check ebay, and check online stores. And a 15 inch may work too. |

Agree with Twan, if it has S-Video out, just hook it up through an RF converter & into the TV. |

I want something more portable than a cheap old tv, I already have one of those available. I guess I will have to pony up the dough and get a cheap 15" flatscreen. i do have s-video out, by the way. |

I use a little 13" from Walmart- $40 brand new. It has taken a helluva lot of abuse and is still going. Is the problem that you have run out of room to pack everything in your vehicle and that's why you need a flatscreen? |

Wow this is really going to sound naive on my part, especially since I've been playing out for several months now. But I've been lugging around a 19" monitor to the shows. Are most of you using 15"? I mean if that's the norm, then I need to stop breaking my back with this thing and taking up so much space. The prices of 15" LCD's have come down to where I can afford one. If you folks would please share with what you've been using. Thanks, James |

13" for the singer monitor, although when I get my new computer built, i'll probably bump it up to 15" flat panel - which is equivalent to a 17" CRT. |

The prices of 15" LCD's have come down to where I can afford one. If you folks would please share with what you've been using. Thanks, James I use a 19" LCD screen. It is a computer monitor with an external TV tuner. The LCD monitor cost me $170 off E-Bay new and the tuner was $60 from Amazon. That is $230 for a LCD display that would have cost $500+ if I had purchased and LCD TV with the tuner already integrated. And the whole setup weighs about 10 pounds and takes up 1/6th the room of a tube TV or CRT monitor. Of course, hamsamich, if you are hooking this whole thing up to your computer, you shouldn't need the external tuner. I have seen 15" LCD monitors on E-Bay from reputable vendors for around $100-130. Again, if you are going to be a pro KJ, and your patrons are going to be staring at this screen constantly, I'd recommend you go ahead and spring for the 19" model for just a few extra bucks. It is a very small extra investment in the long run for a much more impressive end result. |

I currently use a 13 in TV and a stand. I feel that they are both bulky and heavy, so I am considering getting the LCD screens. I know that the prices of LCD monitors have dropped significantly, but most of them are too big for me. I am actually looking for something smaller, like a 10 in LCD monitor that I can mount on a mic stand. For CDG lyrics, I think a 10 in screen is big enough, unless someone has really bad eyesight. A small screen mounted on a mic stand is not only lighter and quite compact, but is also not as obtrusive as a big screen mounted on a full size monitor stand. Surprisingly, there are not many 10 in monitors being sold, and they are expensive. |

Okay, I found a 15" LCD with DVD player and speakers for 199. That's the good part. Questionable part is, One I found it at Biglots, Second it's a Sylvania. My problem with Biglots, is that it's a liquidation store and electronics is not one of it's strong points. But I did check out the unit and it has a killer picture, but is Sylvania a reputable brand. I know that Funai makes it, but does anyone have any personal experience or knowledge about this particular unit or series. Thanks, James |

$120.00 Sure of that?????? I would love a 20"lcd for $120, but they were probably advertising a FLAT SCREEN rather than an LCD. 20"LCDs are $300+ |

In the upcoming Best Buy ad, they are offering an Insignia 15" LCD for only $150, that's about the best price I've seen anywhere on an LCD so far. |
