I am seriously considering the Driverack PA to conserve on rack space. I currently use the DBX 166XL compressor/limiter, DBX 231 eq, Carvin XC3000 crossover, and BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer. Will it make sense to replace those units with the Driverack PA? What are the pros and cons of either setup?
I would still keep the compressor for the vocal mics & the BBE on possibly the overall mix, or vocals only - would need to play with it. The Driverack will theoretically replace the crossover & the eq. The limiter built in is for overall signal limiting not just certain channels. It's a nice piece, but I haven't found it to be really any better or worse. I've heard systems that sounded good before sound actually a little worse after getting one, but then i've heard some improvement on others. Make SURE you know how to set it up correctly - this will be key! Make sure you pay the extra & get the RTA mic as well. As you know each room will need to be eq'd differently, this will help tune the room quicker than ringing it out by ear!
