Okay, I just HAVE to post this before I hit the sack...gotta get up in about 4 hours. I just had a great time singing karaoke in San Francisco with eBen! He is as great in real life as he is online, y'all.  :dancin:  First he fed me real Korean barbecue the we went to a place called the Silver Cloud where we sang--oh, I don't know--maybe 10 songs apiece (I love small crowds!). Oh and of course he showed me the Golden Gate Bridge and more stuff than I can name (I have to get SOME sleep, you know).

Anyhow, I want to pulbicly thank Ben for a most excellent adventure,  :worship:  and highly recommend that everyone save up their frequent flyer miles for a trip out here. Isis, Ben got a coupla pics and will hopefully get them posted soon!

Talk at you guys later!

Wow!  It sounds like he gave you the grand tour!!!  It sounds like fun!!  I might have to make it out there sometime....

One question - Did you sing 'Brand New Key"?

Susie :)

Wow Gigi!!!

You really did get a wonderful guided grand tour of night-time SF!!!

Haven't been there for a few years but I bet it's still one of the most beautiful cities in the world when it's all lit up at night.  Everybody leaves their heart in San Fransico if they stay until after sundown...

And, yeah, I'm with Susie - what did you sing?  Pics of you doing said singing would be nice too (hey, where's eben?)

Glad you had a good time!

I may be old but I still have some recuperative powers left.

So far I have said "I could live here" only 17 times on this trip. That does not beat the record of 2,316 for the North Shore of Oahu but does put it solidly in second place.

They did not have Brand New Key, Cabaret or All That Jazz. I did Since I Fell for You and (AARGH) some new songs. Poorly, I might add. Gigi's First Rule of Karaoke: Just because you know the chorus does not mean you know the verses. And if you know the verses, the bridge can still bite you in the arse.

OOOh and I was flattered to get a request for Son of a Preacher Man. As always, the bridge bit me in the arse.

I know what you mean--it's 'cuz the melody in the bridge usually is not repeated again during the song.  There are usually enough verses and choruses that you can remember how they go.

Glad you had fun!

 Hey!  I resemble that remark!

Been there, done that... I concur...

That's a lesson I'll never learn - I'll still think "Oooh, I can do that!" and then kick myself all the way to my chair!

Sorry all, been busy and all that. I had a wonderful time in the city as well. Nice thing was that the bar only had like 10 people in it so we got to sing as many songs as we wanted. I think we each sang like 10 times that night.

I took some pictures but as Murphy's law has it, I ran out of battery after only like 5-6 pictures so  I had to rely on my cell phone to take a few pictures. I will try to post them sometime this weekend if I can. Too bad we only had the night and the pictures at the Golden Gate bridge didn't quite come out.  :(

We encouraged each other to try new songs so many songs were mangled, partly on purpose. I sang at least 3-4 songs that I have never sang before. I also met a beautiful young lady and now we are married. Well, that was my deam last night anyways. I am hopeful that she will call me but not counting on it.  LOL

Gigi got to see the Golden Gate bridge and Lombard Street, world's crookest street.

Overall it was a fun time until I had to get up the next morning. So, I am still in coherent, as you can see from this post. Chuck, we missed ya. Next time try to come with her so we can really party!

Anyone else coming to town, try to plan it over a weekend so I can give you a proper tour of the area.

Now, remember what we talked about, it's not that you messed up, it was your style. You did a great job of Song of a Preacher Man, no one even noticed that you didn't know the bridge part. That guy who requested it was dancing the whole time you were singing. I wish I had a picture of that.

You didn't tell them about our gender bender singing. We decided to do a song from opposite sex and she sang a great version of Mandy by BM. Then she complained that it was too low.  :D I tried to sing I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor. I knew it was too high for me so I asked the hostess to bring it down two. She said "huh?"  :O The machine did NOT have key changer. I tried to sing it on that key but was way too high and gave up and brought it down an octave. I think I hurt my throat trying to sing that one.  LOL

Again, my invitation stands to anyone who wants to visit this area. I will give you a royal tour of my turf.

Yes they are and I love Ben's turf. I remember some of it like yesterday, though it was twenty years ago.

I neglected to tell Ben how bad it freaks me out to try new stuff in front of people. Sorry, Ben I guess I did sound like a complainer. Manilow and Billy Joel always throw me off...they don't sound that low until I try to sing them. Overcoming a fear and making new friends at the same time is a lesson in humility, but a fun and worthwhile one.

Hehe, it's not a problem, you weren't complaining. You don't know what complaining is until you hang with my Saturday crowd.  LMAO As you can tell from me, I had no problems singing new songs and screwing it up badly. The way I figure is that I am there to sing for myself, not for other people. I am not there to entertain, I am not good enough to do it. So, it doesn't bother me if I stumble with words or just plain miss the entire bridge. All that matters is that I had fun.

As I said to the hostess that night, Karaoke is 25% talent and 75% attitude.

Aha, that's where I get it wrong. I thought it was 95% attitude and 5% beer. I will make the switch but it will take some time.

I just told the dog that Momma is coming home torrow. She understands this as two concepts. "Momma is coming home" is the first and "tomorrow" is the secong. SHe seems to be able to put these toghether and understand it well enough to answer me that today is better for her.

I get to go home tomorrow!

San Francisco is astounding, but home is...HOME!
Even in the middle of a kitchen remodel.
