Hi all -

I'm new here & reading though some of the old posts now, but I've not found the answer I'm looking for...

I'm planning on setting up my home computer to do karaoke over my home theater/TV for a holiday party...  I think I have the hardware down so now I'm looking for inexpensive or preferably free software that will:

- play cdg+mpg out of zip files
- output the lyrics to a 2nd monitor output
- allow for searching by title/artist
- allow users to queue up songs (preferably with their name assigned)

Karafun seems to hit most of what I need & is free, but it doesn't allow for searching and queuing of songs (they said in the next version it will do this).

Anyone here know of some software that might fit my needs?

Thanks!

why not use windows explorer to do your searches in the background? Once you search your hard drive, and don't close it, then finding stuff is easy on repeated searches!

That's kind of my fallback plan for now, but I was hoping for an integrated one that would make it easier for non-computer savvy folks to do themselves.

I would also recomend Karafun. My other choice is Winamp with all the necessary plug-ins but that would take a lot longer to get used to.

I've used Karafun at home with much success though my files weren't zipped. The only thing I couldn't adjust to was that when the viwer window closed at the end of a song it would reopen for the next song on the wrong screen. To fix that it looked it would have required the licensed version.

Winamp has really good search features. Getting the plug-ins needed can be a chore. Getting used to how it works can take a little time too. I recommend trying them both well in advance.

Sacks-O-Nuts will play zipped files. Free (or rather almost free; you need to pay beer money to exweedfarmer if you like it)

I'll ditto that one, Sack O Nuts is the way for you to go for "hosting" package.
And do send weed some beer money, even if it is a couple bucks!

Looks really promising!

Anyone know the difference between the demo and the reg version?  Are there ads, or is it crippled in some way?

Just wanted to know ahead of time before installing it & getting everything set up...
